What's new

Are you a fan of jailbreaking?

Well I have kinda following this thread off and on over the last few days or so, And I have read both sides of the story, And this in turn got me thinking to why I JB my ipad….. Because, after all, most of the things, no not ALL things have been introduced thru the firmware update. For me anyway, yeah the hard core Jb’ers will always have a different take on that. So here is my 3 cents worth….:o
There will always be different reasons for Jb/ Hacking and iDevices'.
Remembers when we used “telnet”, (win95 days, yeah I’m that old) to get our kicks. Or logging onto those irc chat programs where we used to take the admin rights from your friends chat room… Oh yes those was the day my friend….
For some of us it’s just the kick you get from doing it, Call it entertainment. That’s how it always starts.
For others it’s a matter of not wanting to be restricted by the powers to be, Call that Rebellion. That was me one
Sorry for that, I had a nostalgic moment, Please forgive…:D:D
Ok, so yes why did I JB, Well for many reasons of course,
But one of the major reasons I JB’ed was to see if I could actually replace my laptop with the ipad. And I think possibly there is a percentage of folk who of the same mind.
Now I know apple never intended the ipad to be a laptop replacement device, otherwise what was the point of bringing out those super-duper thin air books, which I must say are very smart looking and all, to the point I almost bought one of those instead of the ipad.

But what if you COULD do all those tasks on my ipad that I do on my laptop. Wouldn’t that that be the best!!

Now, I like to point out that I am just average bloke who does the normal things on a computer, things like Google, do some emails; - I have several email accounts, not just one so this can be a challenge on an ipad, down loads bits and pieces etc. A bit of twitter, not that I understand how that works, hence I stay away from face book, that’s just crazy to me.
So basically what I am saying is I’m NOT asking for much, just wanting do to what everyone else does, except I want to do it on my ipad.

So have I achieved this great feat you ask, and was jail breaking worth it.

In One word, yes I sure can, and I surely have thus far.
Admittedly I have only broken jail for about 6 weeks, so I am still new to the whole JB concept, and am on a step, but enjoyable learning curve.

But what but I have learnt so far I have applied and now I found myself
  • Not dependant on iTunes anymore, that’s a great relief...
  • I can use an external hard-drive for storage, if my ipad ever gets fill.
  • I can transfer files between desktop and ipad several ways without iTunes
In fact, I am aiming towards to not even needing a desktop now. And I guess the icing on the cake for me when it comes to Jb’ing are like like the “overboard app”, I just think is just the bee’s knee’s. :D The “safari add ons” you can have, just make life so pleasant for ppl like me:p Multiflow, RemoveBG, Activator are just a few more tip bits that makes the ipad experince all that more enjoyable ;)

Thanks for reading

That was so funny Leigh. When I first saw your answer was no, I thought but isn't he the JB specialist and it was only when I went into the thread, I saw your whole answer.

from Somerset UK on my iPad using IPF app
