Can i restore music to my ipad?

So i have had my apple i.d for a few years, and have downloaded music over this period. However. Did not back it up, and i want to re download the music onto my ipad without paying for it again.

Does anyone know if this is possible? And if so i would really like some advice on how to recover my purchased music.

If it was purchased with iTunes then just download the songs the same way you bought them. iTunes will not charge you.
