Cracked iPad screen

Just returned from my 2 apple store trying to get a replacement to NO success. Was told they no longer are aloud to replace accidental dropped/ cracked screens. He said this just started or I should say ended 2 weeks ago. He claims apple now sell AppleCare plus that covers accidental dropped crack screens. Funny but I tried a different apple store 3 weeks ago and was told they no longer are aloud to replace broken cracked screens with a new iPad. Maybe they should get their stories and dates straight.
Rjchoops, I once again am not happy. Another hour drive each way for nothing.

Well, according to the supervisor I spoke with yesterday they ARE allowed, at the discretion of the employee.

The same exact thing happened to me! I didn't even have it 24 hrs! I bought it at a Verizon store, took it to an Apple store, telling them that I didn't purchase it there, but wanted to get it fixed. My screen was all cracked also. They said no problem, went out back and handed me a brand new one! I was blown away! I will now buy ALL my electronics through Apple!

Also, we're all not lucky enough to live near an Apple store. My husband had to take three hours off work yesterday to drive to Cincinnati. He could take another 3 or 4 and drive to Columbus or 4 to drive to Indianapolis. I'm really thinking we're finished with Apple. The list is getting long for me of why not to do business with them. Having such a junky, easily damaged product is at the top.

That I do understand. We're not close to one either but Huntsville and Birmingham are doable..few hours drive.
But I'll disagree on the 'junky' comment. We own a MacBook and a MacBook Pro and they work better than any HP or Dell I've ever owned. And iPhone is just so intuitive.

Don't give up hope...keep trying.

I just returned from my local apple store with my free replacement ipad2 . Screen cracked when it fell off a table. I got the same speech about one time only, should have cost $269, etc. But in the end they replaced it free. This was at the menlo mall in nj.

Lucky you. So glad that you had that outcome.

For all the others who have been disappointed, I would keep trying, it is a discretionary thing and you should not expect it. If I were to drop my iPad, I would expect it to break, it would be my fault and not Apples. I think Apple is a wonderful company in the fact that they have replaced so many iPads for us. I think the approach is to be honest, humble and not expect them to replace it. No company would survive if they had an open policy to exchange our broken devices, and would we not be as careful if that were the case. I have a friend who works for Apple, a lot of the employees do not even know of this courtesy. Be nice, be honest and humble and DO NOT expect it. Good luck to everyone.

Kaykaykay - But nobody will tell me what the discretion IS based on. Maybe it is based on race, sex or age. I have no idea. If someone could tell me, that would be great. It's not (according to the supervisor I talked to) based on store. It is employee by employee.

Various stores don't offer free exchanges, as posters have noted, on top of employee discretion at stores that do offer them.

Of course, if they were discriminating, they wouldn't be stupid enough to tell you, which is why I doubt they'll run into any trouble at all, despite what you suggested.

I'd be bummed if I'd been denied a free replacement when others had gotten them, but I wouldn't have any sense of entitlement about it. Businesses do this kind of thing every day. People get upgrades on airlines, hotels, etc., often based on employee discretion, for instance. If you're lucky, you get one. If not, that's life.

When I was in college and held various service and retail jobs, I was allowed discretion, too. I basically extended upgrades to everyone who I thought was pleasant. If not, too bad for them.

One should have all risk insurance for that issue. Apple should not have to replace a screen when it is user error.

Nobody says they HAVE to, but apparently they are doing it as a gesture of good customer relations.

I'll bet you're fun at parties.......

I would strongly suggest, as much as possible do not just walk in the store with you broken ipad, because if you just walk in chances are you will speak with the wrong employees that will break you heart. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH GENIUS TECHNICIAN, walk in with you best manner. The technician will then decide wether to replace your ipad or not, but most like they will hand you a brand new one. trust me! Do not talk to any employee in the store and ask them about how to get fix your ipad. and if a must, mention about the one time policy thing, so that the employee or the technician would think that you know all about it. I'll guarantee you walk out the door with big grin! Do it now! call!

Hey everyone! I also have a cracked iPad screen. Was putting my kids in the car and I accidentally dropped it on my paved driveway :(. It cracked one corner and now has a crack all across the screen. It works absolutely fine though. You can't feel the crack unless you run your fingernail over it. I have a Genius appt this afternoon at the Apple store in Huntsville. Has anyone been to this store and have good reviews? I was fortunate enough to have my iPhone4 replaced for free while on vacation in Florida this summer so I worry that even if they wanted to give me a replacement they wouldn't be able to since I've already gotten the phone free before.

They give u a new one for $270. I'm pissed cuz this blonde kid sat on it and cracked the screen. What type of iPad was it? Mines 32gig and has the 4g Internet thing... I was wondering if that would work for me. What apple store did u go to? Sorry if I sound like a creeper. Please reply,
