They have something here called stuffed-crust which I've never had but sounds like excellent jaw-work-out stuff. Think it means the crust edge is rolled into a tube with cheese or something inside the roll.
I probably should get out more! In the olden days... (here we go, you're all muttering) I was labelled as a square. Which translates now to ...?
Don't know, because I don't get out enough

That's what I thought...I have seen people do it on tv, but where I am...we eat pizza...ummm...unfolded!
NY pizza has devoted fans. Some pizzerias even ship tap water from NY because they think there's something special in it (minerals) that makes the crust special. Of course, taste is subjective.
What I know is, my fussy family members from Hong Kong, who don't usually care for pizza, requested that we go for NY slices a second day in a row when they were visiting. Now they're about to visit again after two years, and we were discussing what they'd like to do this time, and they brought up getting slices, lol.

Ok, both of you have convinced me...
I seriously need to take a road trip to NYC for some pizza for my hubbie and I!
And while you're in NY, you must try NY bagels and NY cheesecake. Everyone has their favorite sources, of course.
I rarely eat bagels outside of NY, because I'm usually disappointed. Bread with a hole in the middle is called bagels in many places, but is nothing like the chewy, dense deliciousness that's a NY bagel, IMO. I have friends who get bagels shipped from NY to where they live elsewhere in the country. Some people say, again, that it's NY water that makes its bagels special. Of course, there are many ways to cook something, even using the same water, lol.
My husband and I have wanted to plan a trip to NYC for a long time. I have only visited once as a child, bu would like to visit again. I am going to make note of having the folded pizza, bagels and NYC cheesecake while we are there! Thanks for the recommendation, KayKayKay...and I will certainly try their water as well and see if it is any different than our Michigan water!!
I don't know whether this ever caught on, but some guy was bottling NY tap water and selling it, lol:
