What's new

Food anyone?

I thought the memory lane piece fascinating.

My gran and maiden aunt boarded my brother and I when we were sent to England to go to boarding school. Our parents were working in Trinidadian, BWI. I remember my aunt and gran had a walk in pantry with a slate shelf which kept food cool for longer. They didn't have a 'fridge.

I too remember enjoying fish and chips, sometimes with a pea fritter, served up in newspaper. It tasted better than the later offerings in unprinted / blank sheets of "news"paper.

I used to enjoy bread with butter and sugar.

At one school, our "Elevensies" consisted of a big mug of cocoa and a thick slice of bread and dripping. Neither item was particularly palatable. :(

What an interesting memory of your childhood you have shared with us, Richard....all of it stirred up from the thought of food!

Thanks for sharing!! :)

How long is the process from fresh grapes to bottled wine?

I'm not sure about the time but my mum was an amateur wine maker, all I can remember was the explosions from the cupboard under the stairs as her highly volatile brews would go off like a nuclear warhead!

Baking organic, whole wheat bread :) waiting for it to rise for the last time before going into the oven.
