What's new

Food anyone?

Tried Smashburger today and was not impressed. Disappointed, because the menu sounded good. Had a Spicy Baja Smash and some sweet potato fries. Meh.

I'm having a tall glass of half seltzer, half lemonade now.

I went to Smash burger a lot with my family and I've always been impressed. Someone's burger always turned out pretty red on the inside, though (it was never mine). Don't see why you weren't impressed.

I had a hamburger (no bun), steamed cauliflower and a bacon-hard boiled egg-spinach salad for dinner, cut up a few strawberries for desert then sat down to my movie :)

Everyone's taste will differ. As I posted earlier:

They said they start with a ball of good meat, smash and grill. I found the burger on the dry side and lacking flavor, though. The fresh jalapeños gave it a little kick, but I could eat a jalapeño on its own and get that, lol. With a good burger, I expect the meat and the char to deliver.

For not much more, the Palm does a good burger at lunch!

Had a salad with strawberries, blueberries, almonds, cheese, a cool purple and green leafy thing and mandarin orange slices. Enjoyed it a lot.

Had a rather strange breakfast today (but it worked!), Heston Blumenthal Prawn Cocktail followed by a lemon filled iced Belgian bun!!

That's sounds rather rich fare Gabe. Heston's recipes are unusual but work well. I suppose the lemon ice offset the prawn cocktail. ;)

Looks to be something good, Richard!

It's smelling good. I'm leaving the meat, mixed veg, garlic, onion, leeks and courgette to simmer through for 10 minutes.

We use ready chopped garlic which is excellent, and ready made tomato sauce.

ADDED... I have a technique for chopping onions which is tear -free. I don't use goggles or a spoon. I simply ensure I dice the onion without cutting into the root area. It's a little fiddly. Peel the onion the hold it root down between finger and thumb. Carefully slice down on a NS axis then an EW axis. Hold everything together. Turn the onion on its side and slice through to complete the dicing. I then put the base root side up on the board and make careful angled cuts to trim to the root.

This works every time :)

What's an NS axis and EW axis? I've been cooking for some time and I have no idea...
