Gardening!

We've been gardening quickly to beat the rain.

We planted 2 floribundas Rose bushes. One is called Many Happy Returns - a pretty pink fragrant variety. The other is "Blue by You" The flowers are variegated purple / blue. :)

No, I've had a lot of Jubilee related events and then we went out to look for a kitten at our local rescue centre. The one my daughter has chosen looks very like Archie but she is still too young to leave the foster home. Unfortunately, we are now going to have three kittens. Oops! Large vet bill coming.

Any pics of the Kittens?

I'll post some tomorrow as my phone is charging and I've run out of iCloud space so no photo streaming anymore.

Aren't they just the cutest? Sight unseen but didn't realise how cute they were. It's heartbreaking really because the Somerset and Dorset rescue centre don't put animals down so they are struggling to keep up with vets, food bills etc... They have a Pawfest on Saturday which we are going to but I think the rain is going to spoil their chances of earning enough. She said that they have kittens coming in all the time. Why don't people neuter? Angel comes from an abandoned mother wandering the streets of Sherborne which I may add is a very affluent area with public schools. Human nature hey?
On another point, my delphiniums were battered in these winds. Another job for me today. All my roses were blown apart! Sigh! Anyone else had any problems in UK with these 70mph winds?

Yes, our garden is looking bedraggled, with lots of twigs and branches blown out of the copper beech . No boughs are down - yet.

Th e kittens are adorable.
We've had rain and wind here last week. Nothing over 50 mph but the roses are battered.

My columbine are blooming it's last flowers...but most are looking quite spent.

Now does anybody know of I should trim back the spent ones and how far down should I do that?

I don't have columbines so I don't know about this. A photo would be nice. Thanks Bobbi. These little cuties are arriving in two weeks so the house has to be cleared of all kitten attractions. Apparently my kitten is a little escape artist. Any cupboard and he's under there (the tabby, Cocoa). Well, I've managed to rub down the last bench and chair and I've put it under cover as the rain is here again. I wanted to paint it but that will have to be another sunny dry day. It's quite cathartic and apart from the backache, I enjoy painting. It's addictive. When they are all finished, I will be putting a lovely white gloss on top but that will have to wait until sunny weather. Undercoat will have to do for now. I've gone round the garden taking photos of all my flowers. Then the rain came. It was a quick run with iphone in hand before I got soaked. Why are you always at the bottom of the garden when that happens?
