How to send to GROUPS with iPad Mail

In MailShot, I just made a 23 member group for a tennis team I'm captaining. Don't mind alphabetizing them manually, but when in edit mode if their email addresses don't contain their last names, I have to keep getting out of edit mode to check. Still not a big deal. So thankful for the program. It's gonna be so nice when I have to forward stuff to the team and I won't have to get out of the mail program or have to cut and paste anything to do it.

While I can see that some people might want an alphabetic list there are other occasions when you might not ;-)

I have a large number of kids (I dare not tell you how many) and I use MailShot to email them. But I like them in order of birth - oldest first. It's sad when you have so many kids you need MailShot to keep in contact!! MailShot is still the greatest solution to Group mailing out there and fantastic to see the Developer is so responsive to the users. Many thanks from a very grateful customer.

Ipad group email message

When you are creating a new contact enter the first email address of the first person in the group followed by a comma and then a space and then the second address and repeat for as many addresses as you want. It may also be easier to copy and paste all of the email addresses in your note pad and then edit them there then copy and paste the entire document into the email text box when creating your contact list in the contacts app. I used it on my iPad and my iPhone for six different contact lists, one containing as few as two email addresses and another containing as many as twenty two.

I did exactly as you suggested but error message still appears saying email address is invalid. Double checked to see if I was doing anything wrong but can't seem to find anything.

MailShot really is the answer to your problem. OK - you have to pay a little for it, but the app is perfect for sending group emails. You can easily set up groups of users and mail them all with a single click from the iPad's native Mail app.

Highly recommended - and I have no connection with the Developer

I made groups using the Group Mail app. The only trouble is now my iPad won't download any new emails. Is anything ever simple?!

I'm surprised and I would think this is almost certainly not caused by MailShot.

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!

Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

I should, of course, have said that - in my previous post - when I referred to the 'offending app' I meant the iPad's native 'Mail' app.

I was using the free app Group Mail. I deleted the app and turned the iPad off and that did the trick. Every day is a new adventure!

in response to Jmacs request a few weeks ago:

I have just added this for you today, it'll be in the next update (1.4 in a few weeks). I put it on a button on the Contacts page, so people who don't want to alpha sort (like Tim) dont have to.

I'll also be showing the email addresses on the Contacts page, to make it easier for people doing this manually.

Thanks for your input to Mailshot

Peter

Wow - you are so responsive! Thanks. Yes - I like my Family group to be in age order - no real reason why, it's just the way I think of them! But to have the *option* to sort them alphabetically is great too!

I feel honoured!

Mailshot update 1.30 on the App Store

Just to let you know that there's another new update on the store today (1.30, I misspoke when I said 1.40 in a reply to Tim earlier, it gets confusing when they start to overlap :))

This update brings a number of improvements to the contacts screen, based on user experiences and feedback, including the ability to sort contacts as originally requested on this very forum.

Please visit the news page on solubleapps.com for full details on what's been changed.

As always, one of the problems with updating frequently is that we lose the good reviews people have been kind enough to leave so far, so if you get the chance I would really appreciate it if you would stop by the App Store and refresh your old review, or add a new one if you haven’t done so before.

Thanks to the members of this forum for their support, and if you have any suggestions for further improvements or tweaks I'd love to hear from you.

Importing Groups Already Set Up in Gmail

I love this MailShot app, it's pretty useful. What would be helpful is if we could import our already made groups that were set up in our native email domain, i.e., gmail and have them sync, everytime there's an update, either in Gmail or the Mailshot App or the native Contact app in iOS. Is this doable?

After I installed Mailshot on my iPad 2, I found that I had to recreate groups that I already had set up in my Gmail account, which is fine if you don't have too many groups with too many people in them but could be time consuming, otherwise. Also, upgrading to the pro version only allows for 50 contacts in one group - i've actually got a group that has 83 contacts, so it looks like i'll have to create 2 subgroups for that 1 large group.

Anyhow, just my 2 cents.

Why not send a PM to the developer. He is most responsive and considerate developer I have ever come across - a developer who actually listens and responds to his users requests!! Now there's a first! But, seriously, he has in the past responded to users' requests for additional features to be added - the alphabetic sort facility, for example - so he's always listening.
