What's new

If you are new, please post an introduction thread.

Hi all. I bought my wife an iPad as a gift about a year ago. She makes basic use of it for emails and the odd game, but I am the fix it and how to guy. I find its best use is when on the road, not for work as we are retired, but just when we are out and about. I have mastered much of what I need to know to use it, but there is still plenty to learn to make the most of it.

I use a WD TV Live wifi media player attached to my HDTV at home and love it. However, I really need a wireless keyboard to enter data to it rather than the exceedingly slow remote. I have been trying to figure out how to use the iPad as a wireless keyboard. I can do it with YouTube searches but not as a general keyboard for other functions. There are so many apps out there that finding the right ones is a challenge. I play bridge on Bridge Base at times, I also video Skype around the world. I am frustrated by the lack of flash capability in Safari.

Anyway, iPad is an amazing device which my wife enjoys and I love when I can get my hands on it. It will never replace my PC though - different thing entirely.

New to ipad with a mini, having plenty of questions to unlock it to use other devices (GPS, tethering, itunes library, etc.)

I am a Dragonvale player, looking for friends, I am a retired nurse. My daughter got me onto Dragonvale
Hi, Lilahbelle61! I'm Daughter Judy. I'm not a Dragonvale player, but I am probably in your age group. I live in Dallas. I tend to play games that I can play for a few minutes, then stop. I'm still working and taking care of my elderly parents and not quite grown up daughter, so time becomes an issue. I've had my iPad a little less than a year, and I have found it very useful when visiting my father in the nursing home. He is fascinated by all of the pictures I have on it. Going through them helps his memory and entertains him better than TV.

I work as a technical writer in an information technology department of a large company. I write the "how to" manuals for lots of different things. It is not a very exciting job, but I find many of the projects quite interesting. I become a "temporary" expert on a product before I move on to the next project.

I'll have to check out Dragonvale!

Amazon has SD card/USB adapters that will make it possible to transfer pictures into your iPad directly from an SD card or flash drive. They are not expensive and they work quite well.
I also like the Bear Motion iPad cover. My old iPad was run over by a car when someone stole my purse. It was dented and bent, but it survived due to excellent design, a great case, and a lot of good luck. I took it to the Apple store, and they replaced it! It was still under warranty and apparently they considered the dent in the back a manufacturing defect, despite the fact that it had been run over by a car!! I was so impressed with their customer service. However, I do suggest you check out Amazon for gadgets. The prices are much better than Apple's, but I doubt the warranty would be as good!
