I like the red wing chasing the hawk. Red wings were everywhere when I was a kid. Don't see them much where I live now.

And what wonderful photos you shoot too AQ_OC! Just beautiful!

Thank you leelai. I am restarting an old hobby that I started and quit back when I was in college many, many moons ago. Back then, it was just too expensive (for me, that is) to be into photography with the cost of film and developing...now, things have totally changed and even modest cameras do a great job...and the cost is pretty close to zero once you buy the camera. And cameras seem to be undergoing quite a technological spurt right now, not to mention what our phones can do!

I had never even seen a red wing until I started going to this nature park. I think they like to be around water. I never see red wings near my house, which is less than 5 miles from this park.

I think you're right about water. There were marshes near my home - and intense heat in the summer.

I was startled this year when red winged blackbirds showed up in my backyard and ate from my bird feeders. We are not "marshey" at all. They may even have nested here. This area has lots of redwings in all the parks near water.

I wonder if they're changing migratory patterns, adapting to changes to their habitat.

Recently I returned to my stomping ground to see what has changed and the first thing I noticed was a decrease in the area's wetlands.

Great shots tp. Are those multi lights to cover a sports field, perhaps a baseball pitch you mentioned earlier.

Yes, the lights are for a baseball field, one of the biggest along the path, across the creek from the trail. According to the satellite map, there is also a football field next to it.

I've only seen them three times (once yesterday) and all three were next to a river or lake. Of course, that's true of a lot of birds and animals. You're more likely to seen them around water, provided there is any near by.
