yeah....for every one I show, there are like 100-150 others that get trashed. :)

Yep! And it is great that we can take that 100 now. Except for photos of children, I hesitated to take pictures. Now I always take 2 or 3 or more, if the subject will let me. And a few of them make me feel like a photographer.

Thank you leelai. I am restarting an old hobby that I started and quit back when I was in college many, many moons ago. Back then, it was just too expensive (for me, that is) to be into photography with the cost of film and developing...now, things have totally changed and even modest cameras do a great job...and the cost is pretty close to zero once you buy the camera. And cameras seem to be undergoing quite a technological spurt right now, not to mention what our phones can do!

I remember those old days, it was just so expensive, with films and developing and it took quite a few days to get them developed. I even remember my parents having to buy flash cubes. And gees we only ever took 1 photo of anything, now I'll take a few, just to make sure I get a good shot! Times have certainly changed in this pursuit!
Apple are running TV ads here now that the iPhone is what most people use now for photos and they're right, I see more phones out there taking photos than cameras.
So glad you can rekindle your hobby and I very much enjoy your photos and everyone else's!

WOW! What great photo's you all have taken! What a joy to view them each and every one! Thanks for sharing...I love the bumblebee because they are dying out here in BC,

My wife and I took a drive into the Adelaide hills yesterday and true to form (being the shortest day of the year here) it was very cold and drizzly, which cleared up after lunch. Lunch was nice in a very old hotel in the hills village of Hahndorf, a farm settlement by a captain Hahn in the mid-1800s, which soon after was settled by many German families.
Here are few pics of our pleasant day.

Grey and rainy to start off with.

My dear wife (she's actually an Aries):)

Some of the shop fronts were quite touristy and kitch.

Typical of the many German style eateries. If one wanted a nice Bockwurst with sauerkraut, Hahndorf was a good place to visit.

We had a nice lunch near an open fire in the late 1800s Hahndorf Inn.

With no doubt what you could buy inside.

Another old pub down the road, The German Arms Hotel.

A walk past many "touristy" shops like this was quite interesting.

Thanks for sharing your photos of Hahndorf, Andrew. It looks like a real slice of the Black Forest. I'm sure Johanna will be commenting ;)

That was a really nice break for you both.

I'm guessing that your new Olympus system camera etc travelled with you :)

Thanks Richard, it was a nice outing. Yes indeed, it was my new camera's first tentative excursion out of the house as I've been a bit busy. Very pleased with it.

You must have had a wonderful time yesterday.
I was surprised to find German words in your interesting post. The buildings you posted seem to be from the times when Hahndorf was founded. Do you know, if anyone there still speaks German after more than two centuries? It would be interesting to hear them talking.

I know of some people from Apetlon who migrated to Canada or the USA 50/60 years ago. When they visit us, they still use the old dialect that doesn't really exist any more.

Andrew,
What is a Giant Captain Hahndog? :)

It was mate. This shop had a huge variety of "hot dogs" with an incredible variety of sausages: Viennas, kranskis, knackwurst, can't remember them all; even some British varieties of pork sausage, black pudding (blutwurst) etc.

I guess "Viennas" is what we call "Frankfurter" in Austria. :-)

Thanks Johanna, it was a nice day. We went there for a birthday lunch.
I remember, say 20 years ago, when Hahndorf was much more "authentic", but today it has become very "touristy German" to please the hoards of tourist buses, but somehow it doesn't quite make it anymore.
Some of the original marvelous German butcher and bakery shops are being replaced by Chinese and Indian food and spice shops now. Nothing wrong with those, but not really perpetuating that original atmosphere that made Hahndorf an interesting novelty. We used to go up there for some lovely authentic German schwarzsbrot but that baker is gone now too. And when you order weisswurst in the shop now by properly pronouncing it with the "v", you are not understood unless you call it "weesworst".
So to answer your question; no, I could be wrong, but I don't think there are many German speaking people living there anymore.
But nevertheless, it's a nice destination for a drive in the Adelaide hills and the lovely old buildings still have an atmosphere of yesteryear.
And to keep boring everyone, just a few more shots here.;)

I pronounce the 'w' in 'Volks'w'agen' the way it should be. Occasionally I get a call from a listener who thinks I'm daft.

Quite right your pronunciation AA, and if he/she is not pronouncing the "V" as an "F", tell 'em they're daft;)

It's not that simple with the German "V". Sometimes it's pronounced as "v" like in "volcano".
