Interesting photos!
There's no difference between your first two pictures, except that the second one is cropped. Which camera was it this time?
Do the contestants have to form groups of four, or is this only on your photos? Is the time for building a boat limited? Who's paddling the boat when it's finished - all of the builders, or 2 of them?
It must be fun building these boats.
What happens to the boats that don't reach the finish?
I used my Lumix pocket digital camera, it has twice the resolution of the iPhone camera. The people paddling the boats have to be from the teams that built them. One person paddles across the lake and another takes over for the return trip. They have several rescue boats to pick up those who don't make it. Everybody wears life jackets, of course. They even have an award for the first boat to sink, it's called the Titanic award.
Titanic award sounds great.
I assumed that there'll be arrangements to make sure that the people will survive. Otherwise this contest wouldn't exist any more.
What about the boats? Are there several wrecks at the bottom of the lake?
I like LightTrac for planning photos. Gives you just about everything you can know about the sun and moon for a given location and time.

The local Naval Reserve unit has two rescue boats standing by to help any boat that gets into difficulty. No, there are no plywood "Titanics" on the lake bottom.
You mean that if you need the sun in a particular location when photographing a certain object, this app can let you calculate when to take the picture?

Do the people name their boats?
This means it could help me find the perfect location to take a picture of the rising moon right now - or in my case tomorrow? Wow!
Actually I've never planned a photo. I just wait for the right moment.
