What's new

iOS 4.2.1 Available Now - Yes, Really

Actually I know exactly what I am doing. In previous version of windows you could just reassign where the documents folder was...no longer an option in win 7.
I have worked on windows and mac and linux for many many years...not just passively I have done much low level support. Windows is the least efficient. It is good for gaming and thats about it. That is my opinion and you will not sway me on it.

Certainly it's an option: Change location of My Documents Folder - Windows 7

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, misguided though it may be. ;)

Wow, you are SO brilliant (can you note the sarcasm...I already know how to do that). Now let me know how you do that to the hidden AppData folder and you will be my hero.

Just because you (or your girlfriend) don't know what you are doing doesn't mean you have to flame an entire OS. Maybe you should join a Windows forum ... :)

Rude much? Who stole your cookie?

Sorry, it probably came off more rude than I meant it to. Still, the OS bashing was uncalled for in my opinion, especially since there are easy solutions just a Google search away. Those types of comments get under my skin for some reason. I would be more than happy to help if people are having similar issues.

Anyhow, back on topic!

Wow, you both obviously have no clue what I'm talking about...but you are able to be completely rude about your so called solutions well enough.

Anyhow, as to moving the AppData folder, it takes a little bit of work to do it on an established system but you can do it. You will need to boot with the Windows 7 (assuming that is the OS is question) DVD so you can gain access to the folders you wish to move. Robocopy the contents over to a different hard drive, create a symbolic link to the new location, and reboot. I have all of my local and application data folders on my secondary hard drive this way to save space on my SSD.

I am running windows xp and I kept getting a corrupted download message, check network settings and try again. This happened twice so I did a restart on my pc,turned off my norton security and it downloaded successfully. Now I can start playing.

Plugged into PC (Win7).
Itunes activated, and advised me there was an update.
Nodded my head to all options (download and update)
A bit long winded, and at times I thought it had stalled.
Update onto the PC took about 30 minutes.
(its a wireless access to the internet)
Then it was unpacked and verified, update to the IPAD was automatic, but again took a fair while. Always does when you watch it.
The reboot of the IPAD seemed to stall, but I waited it out, and low and behold all came up.

I had a minor problem opening up my Video folder black screen with "sync stopped" indication.
Resync at the PC and all was well after that.
Now away to play.

I'm still backing up.

Should I just go ahead and shut Norton down?

(I'm on Vista, not 7, if that makes a difference.)

My download finished and now it says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad "(Name)". The network connection timed out." wtf? It finished downloading, do I have to download it again for another hour??! So ridiculous.

Thank you for an actual solution. I have already tried that tho and when I log back in to the account I am trying to move it creates a Temp folder for the user and ignores the new linked folder. I did it as a Junction link not a symlink so it should work....but alas it doesn't

If you are so inclined, give the mklink command a try and see if that works better. I should note that I did this right after my Win7 install before I had any real AppData to contend with. Maybe I'll try it on my wife's laptop (hehe) and see if it works on a more established system.

Thats what I did:

mklink /J C:\Users\Melissa D:\Users\Melissa

I end up with a Melissa folder with a link to the D: folder...I can click into it and it takes me to the d:....unfortunately windows disregards it and creates a Temp user folder that is of course deleted after logout.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed a difference in some things after the update?

Keyboard seems more enhanced,
My SPEAKERS seem to have improved.
Everything looks sharper.

Anyone else think this too?

It is faster....but no, I'm pretty sure the rest is placebo.

I'm done! IOS 4.2.1 all present and correct! Looks good, will probably now stay up half the night getting to grips with it all! I like the folders, reduced 11 pages of apps down to 2! Hope your updating goes well!
