New iPad with retina charging issue

Hi I am new here and I also just got the new ipod with retina display. My problem is right out of the box it was 98% charged and when the charger is plugged in to the wall or when plugged into the computer the iPad will not register it's charging. In fact it says not charging. Ughhh please help! Thanks.

The pc computer USB cannot provide sufficient wattage to charge the iPad with exceptions most pcs have same issue however most Macs do support higher output. Just use a wall charger instead
It will however trickle charge regardless of the indicator. iPad charger is 10watts
I use my iPad charger for all my apple I devices

I misread your post sorry. Wait until the iPad drops in charge plug it in to the wall adapter supplied and see if it indicates charging if not contact apple for replacement charger
