Beautiful area Stellenbosch! The vineyards are awesome too! You can't beat our wine, can you? But then we are biased.

Sent home! Ha! Back in the day when I was no taller than a car fender, on hot days they'd send us out for recess and we'd roast mightily.
No AC, no fan, and no shorts allowed. Catholic school with nuns for teachers. No chance of any skin showing above an ankle. A short ankle at that.
:)

Goodness another convent kid.
Remember the cold marble hall ways and chilblains on the toes.
We had to have our dresses measured each morning kneeling on the platform
It had to touch the floor.
If you lent over just a tad you could get away with a shortened tunic.
The nuns would take your belt if you hitched up your tunic!!!
We resorted to hat elastic which they couldn't see.hee....hee......
Oh the days of short shirts.............

I would absolutely love some snow and a white Christmas would be a dream. It's as hot as today, but blue skies forever.

Remarkably, I still remember the sisters names.
Mary-Theresa, Mary Margaret, Constance, Millicent (she was my favorite) but I can't remember her saint name.
We could call her Sister Millicent but not around the principal.
I remember she surprised us one day by marching us into a classroom with a movie projector. We watched
"The Trouble With Angels" which was the beginning of my school boy crush on Hayley Mills. :) AA

Yes there was always a groovy nun who was great mates with the girls.
We had Sr Bonaventure,Patrice,Rupert,Cletis,Edmund,my favourite was Paula my art teacher.
we had borders, did you? Those poor long suffering girls far from home having to eat stodgy food and sleep in dormitories .
They were always fat.
The bread and puddings were served at every meal to fill them up.

No borders but some of the rural kids were hard-bitten. We had mixed classes, boys and girls, which was progressive for the mid 1960s. I was an altar boy from grade 5 - 9. Learned Latin before French. The church, rectory and school were all hookedup on the same property.
To the best of my knowledge none of us went to prison so I guess a strict Catholic education had its benefits.

Thank you for this exchange.

On another topic altogether, sorry but I need to vent. Just drove my hubby to a Football luncheon, on the drive back I feel something on my toes, I look down, it's a huge hairy spider, okay maybe not huge but at least 3 inches from toe to toe. I start screaming much to the dismay of the people in the car next to me, who surely think I'm a looney tune. There's too much traffic to stop and by the time I do I'm a quivering mess of jelly and by this time it's nowhere to be found. Lovely drive from then on wondering if it will appear and attack me again! Love summer but not all the creepy crawlers that come with it.

I had a similar experience. 20 minutes into a drive, in October, I look down and there's a giant bumblebee on my steering wheel. I'm terrified of bees and wasps so I started to freak out. Luckily for me it was at a red light so I didn't cause a crash, otherwise I would have!!

All creepy crawlies scare me. We have huntsman spiders here and they can get absolutely huge and the worst thing about them is that they can run so fast and jump long distances. Huge flying cockroaches are a problem here too, I've had one fly straight into my face as I stepped outside. I don't mind so much if I see them first and can take evasive action but not when they touch me and scare the crap out of me.
