The "Anything Goes" thread

Thanks to scifan for forwarding the news to this thread & finding the N.Geographic link which gives a good resume of what it's all about.

So much for going to bed (now 1.15am :-)) but we are intrigued by the interesting scenario developing as we watch.

We have just watched the video issued by CERN about the Higgs Boson news on the Daily Telegraph newspaper (UK) site, but they have now just taken it off again, leaving a video-shaped gap.

The CERN news was leaked somehow & presumably the papers dare not tread longer where they might get burnt. The spokesman ended the video by saying the news was "pretty darned significant". Which must mean the scientists themselves are getting a bit itchy.

It is now "tomorrow" here, so presumably it's a go with the news.

Yes, news of the discovery of the Higgs Boson,or God Particle is being broadcast by the BBC.

What a breakthrough!

After the roadbed is completed, the sidewalks will be repaired. The last thing done will be paving the street.

Yes, UK is famous for diggin' 'oles....! In just-mended roads is taken for granted :-)
We even sing songs about it. Here's Bernard Cribbins:

Funny how we can get so excited about a tiny bit of nothing!

Happy 4th of July to all those who don't think it's just another humdrum Wednesday!

That disappearing video from last night is in the Times UK online. And lots of other places too, for sure.
The scientists all bend over backwards to say it's just a theory, as in, now almost 9.99% likely. Hedging...!

Something related to this made me laugh while watching the news earlier. The contractor for a highway near my place is being sued by the local government. They did great in applying a new thick asphalt on top of the old one alright. The problem is, the people who is in charge of cleaning (clearing) the sewage can't locate 661 manholes. Topping a manhole? Just in time for a typhoon.

Oh my gosh...that will be a terrible mess, Quake!!

Time to get out the metal detectors and find those manhole covers.

The manhole covers my city uses fit in a sliding sleeve that can be raised to accommodate the increased thickness of a layer of new paving.

I hope the contractor is found responsible for this mess.

They said it'll take them more than a week to find, fix and clear the manholes. Also in time when all of our dam is in red alert. The water level is inches away from the critical level. One dam started releasing yesterday. Hope the people near the dams will know what to do just in case it starts to flood.
