Yes, I have a few of those particles in a jar on the mantelpiece, I've been keeping them for years in case they become valuable.

You must have lost one. Apparently it's been found. You should contact CERN and ask for it back.:D

I like the news where a drunkard falls in a manhole. It was found out that it was him who stole the thick round metal cover. They say in the US, if you fall in a manhole, you can sue the government. In the Philippines, if a man falls in a manhole, he's stupid. I think

Here's some more roadwork photos.

Oh my gosh...that will be a terrible mess, Quake!!

Oh dear, Quake. I bet the water pressure caused by storm water entering the sewers will most likely blow the manhole covers (in PC UK they now call manholes inspection chambers) along with the asphalt covering.

Here, the covers and frames to all services ironwork are released, and are raised up on rings of concrete or metal to realign with the new road surface.

Alternatively, and more usually, the old road is removed by planing machines in readiness for a new roadway to be constructed. This is very much the process being undertaken in Scifan's street.

Have seen reports that some utilities in the eastern U.S. are using brownouts to cope with the high AC demand during the heatwave and storm damage.

this is a great thread.

from the higgs boson via manholes to general roadworks, and i'm sure i've seen sergeant pepper mentioned at least once.

i had a similar fascination not long ago with a jar of lemon curd i found in my fridge. never wittingly having purchased such a thing i'm still conducting experiments to establish what may be its purpose, if not its meaning. (its origins very possibly are lost in the mists of time). i have a hunch that adding some vodka to it may assist the matter greatly. in fact, seeing that it's coming up quarter to one on a friday night and i'm peckish i may go about it right now and then report back, if that's all right with everyone...
