Back from a walk downtown. Farmers market and the first week- end of World Championships. Just practice this week-end. Things officially start Wednesday, but many competitors come for 2 weeks.

Thanks for posting those great photos. Exciting sport! And wet :)
Will some competitors be coming to the Olympics?

I recently received a superb newsletter from the UK National Archives.

It covers the history of the modern Olympics, and has albums of Canadian Pioneers.

There are other subjects covered.

The range of topics merits a post under Anything Goes. :) :) :)

Richard, you fiend!
That link is fascinating. Didn't even realise they produced a newsletter, and such an attractively designed one.
Will be forwarded pronto to the archive guru in this particular family. :-)

Just heard Ernest Borgnine passed away.
He was 95.
I remember him from the TV show "McHale's Navy" and the movie "The Dirty Dozen."

Yes, he was a great actor. I remember him in "The Flight of The Phoenix" and The Poseidon Adventure".
I think he was also in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".

I've enjoyed Dr. Who off and on through the years.

A 1969 film "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun"
also UK produced is a favourite of mine. It's old school (Gerry & Sylvia Anderson) and uses miniatures for SFX.

Most of the filming was done at Pinewood. In Europe the film was released as "Doppelgänger."
It's a fun ride.

I have remembered what that series with the huge ball chasing people was called:-- "The Prisoner" but no clue what it was about. They filmed bits in the model village in Portmerien (sp?) which made the ball look really HUGE. Now I think about it, might have been a giant pig's bladder?

That was in the days before CG, when people had to be really inventive with cardboard, string & washing up bottles. A la Blue Peter of course.

And forgot "Blakes 7" too.

It was a psychological series written or directed by, and starring, Patrick McGooan? as the prisoner. He was a spy, or similar, held by a criminal. A famous saying was "I am a person, not a number". Patrick was, I think, No 2.

The series achieved a.cult status. I recommend trying Wiki... For the actual facts. My memory ain't that good ;)
