The London Olympics 2012

Yesterday, we were at Stratford for the Paraolympics. Everything was totally AMAZING :) :) :) :) :)

I'm in the process of sort photos to post. These will be posted later today

We witnessed world records being broken, a clean medal sweep by the Brazilians wither guides, and Oscar Pistorius blow the opposition away. Wow!

These first 4 show the Aquatics Centre, the Orbit viewing platform (I have put photos of views from the Orbit onto the architecture thread) the public areas where street entertainers kept us all amused, and of the canal side park.

Underneath one bridge there were waterfall bars which controlled the water so that words were spelled in each burst of water. I set the camera into sports mode but could not catch any words.

The Brazilians and their guides broke a world record and had a clean sweep for medals. Both the athletes and their guides were awarded medals. Great :).

Time to go home. We passed the singing volunteer who, to the tune of Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchip" (excuse spelling! ) sang those for Stratford pass on the left hand side. Those for London on the right hand side. Further along another volunteer said we have entered him in a competition, but he doesn't know it! :D

I couldn't capture the Mexican Wave which swept right round the stadium 3 or 4 times. Imagine, almost 30,000 taking part in it. I expect videos will be released on UTube ;)

This links to the men's T44 100M final.

I hope the link works. It's in HD which comes over very very well on the iPad.

The Canadian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team won its third gold medal in the past four Paralympics on Saturday, beating the defending champions from Australia 64-58. Canada avenges the previous final in 2008 when Australia ended Canada’s bid for a three-peat.

Montreal swimmer Benoit Huot was the flag bearer for Canada at the closing ceremonies of the Paralympic Games.

Huot won gold, silver, and bronze. Canada finished with 7 gold medals, down from 19 four years ago, ending in 20th place among the countries competing.

Additionally, Canada won 15 silver and 9 bronze for a total of 31 medals.

Sad to see the end of our Olympic year. Third in both contests! Not bad for a little old island.

Yes, I agree. I've some oddments to post which have an Olympic connection occasionally tenuous. I will post tomorrow, once I have the photos ready.

Wasn't the Teams GB Parade great :)

Also, isn't Andy Murray doing well :) :)
