Good news today from Verizon Wireless for its customers who are planning to travel overseas and are worried about the high cost of data usage, as the company has just announced its new Global Data Plan. Kicking off on April 23, the new plan offers US-based customers 100MB of data for $25 per month when travelling outside the US and visiting any of the 120 destinations specified by Verizon, including all of Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. Granted, that’s still not exactly cheap, but it’s an improvement at least!
In order to be eligible for the plan, you must have a domestic data package and international eligibility, which requires minimum payment history. Should you go over your allotted 100MB, you’ll get a text from Verizon to let you know that an additional 100MB of data for $25 has been automatically made available to you. Those people who will be travelling to countries outside of the areas covered by the plan, but still within Verizon Wireless global coverage areas, will be charged at Pay Per Use rates of $0.02 per KB.
