Rabbits and young Cardinals are supplying the latest interest in my backyard. There are 3 Cardinals but I didn't get a good picture when the parents brought them to the feeder together.

We don't know Cardinals here--he's very attractive! Lovely rosy patch & a really snazzy haircut (we are studying the latest hair styles on the men gymnasts here at the olympics -- we are NOT looking at their bodies, of course:-):-)) and his topknot really is bang on track!

The rabbit is so funny, I think caught in mid-scratch? He looks a bit startled to be spotted...wonder what he was about to do:-)

The cardinal photo is of one of the young ones. Here's a fuzzy phot of papa, momma, one of the youngsters.

Now for a photo of the short tailed squirrel. It doesn't seem to bother him.

Great photos!

Wow, the father Cardinal is a really strong red--saturated! What an impressive bird. And to get all three together--congratulations, that is NOT easy!!

Love the docked-tail squirrel... wouldn't it be great to be able to ask him how that happened? Did he want to lose a quick bit of extra weight? Of course it may have been a fashion statement? A misguided one perhaps, but then, we all make those! Lol:-)

How do you get so close or are they used to being near humans?

Tonight, shortly after sunset I was returning to the garage from taking out the trash, when I noticed a shovel lying on our mulch pile. The "shovel" then began moving. Not sure what kinds of snake it was, as he went one way and I went the other. We have very few snakes here, so it's startling when you see one.

I too prefer seeing the tail end of a snake ... In retreat.
