What's new

What I see in my backyard...

I went for a walk at my University and see that the Bell Tower they are building is almost complete. It will be beautiful when it's done. It's scheduled to be complete this Fall with a student/alumni grand ceremony to be held along with it. <img src="http://www.ipadforums.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=56851"/> Skimonkey ~~ sent from my iPad using iPF

One more day and then it's winter here and the citrus trees in the back yard are going to have a good crop this year:

The grapefruit tree is also coming along nicely. I tried one this morning, but it could do with with a bit more sweetness. And size...last year they were huge!

Clever trees those:) will provide oodles of vitamin C when needed most in winter.

What a wonderful backyard. The only way I can see citrus fruit is if I go to the supermarket.:(

Wonderful citrus trees Andrew! And that is a bumper crop!

How nice to have freshly squeezed juice every day and then some!

My FIL has a lemon tree and each year it gets so full of lemons that he has to stick planks of wood under the branches to support them. It ends up looking quite odd!

We too love our glass of fresh lemon juice first thing of a morning:) Our lemons should be more juicier than last year as we made a point of watering them more in summer/autumn. Although nowhere near as many as your FIL's...for some reason our trees have gone more into leaf, probably the watering;)

Lol....that's quite a lemon you have there!

I always think double fruit is kinda special....I wonder how the flesh will be in the area where it's joined....

It could just be 2 separate lemons once it's peeled....now you have me wondering?? ;)

Andrew needs to post a series of un-peeling shots along the line of a product unboxing.

The cut pieces look like number 8's. Just think, you could make lemonade from lemon 8's.;)

Wow...Andrew, your lemon and grapefruit trees look wonderful! I would love to live in a climate where I could have citrus trees right out my backyard. Lots of lemonade to be made with your tree.

Our Bell Tower will Ring. There will be 49 bells that will be arriving from Cincinnati, Ohio and the Netherlands. It will play daily and during special activities. I wasn't aware of the statistics on the Carillon Tower, however, I pulled this from our website:Elliott Carillon Tower - About Oakland University - Oakland University

The structure will become the 14th carillon tower in Michigan, and only the fourth located on a university campus. Its 49 bells will be designed and cast by
The Verdin Company of Cincinnati and the Royal Bellfoundry Petit & Fritsen of the Netherlands.
  • The largest bell weighs around 5,000 pounds and is five feet in diameter
  • Total weight of all bells is over 30,000 pounds (over 15 tons)
  • The carillon tower is one of the tallest bell towers on a college campus in the U.S.
  • The carillon bell tower will feature a fully chromatic 49-bell carillon ranging from low C, which weighs around 5,000 pounds, to high C, at 24 pounds.
In a nutshell, it will be awesome when it's finished! :)

Andrew, if this lemon has seeds, you should try planting them to see if you can get more of this amazing lemon. It would be amazing to see a tree full of double lemons. :D
