What's new

What I see in my backyard...

They are pepper plants and edible too. I sense a tasty tray of fresh nachos with all the fixings.

It's cooling north of the frontier but it's a hearty bunch I think. Overcast tonight. If there's a frost warning I'll move it inside.

It's a bit subdued but there's cabbage in there too. Too dark to get a pick of that now.

Sounds like you're going to have one heck of a spicy Mexican dinner coming your way! :)

My moms been seeing a muskrat by the road for a while now but it got hit today :(

I almost cried.

Awww...sorry to hear that!

This is from my front yard at dusk tonight.

This pine cone has been sitting on our patio table all summer. It opens and closes. I am wondering if it has anything to do with how much moisture is in the air.

Yes, it does. We used to use them in England for predicting rain. Closed, fine. Open, rain. They were usually open.

Now see, I thought when its dry and warm the pine cone opens and when it is wet it closes.

Hell. That's why I kept getting caught out in the rain.

Yup, I think you are right. Moisture variations, rather than temperature.

They open out so that the seeds can be scattered.

Help, is there a botanist in the house?

Are you sure, I use the old method, if the day ends in a "y" then it'll rain.

The Squirrels have been very busy searching for acorns in our backyard. I have quite a few of them running and searching for nuts to bury in their little hiding places. A few pictures of what I see in my backyard...
