What I see in my backyard...

A bit of trauma here.

This bird hit the window harder than usual

His wing was stretched out to the right when I first saw him. When he moved I decided he might need help.

He flew away when I got near him.

At least it all ended happily!

Concussions are common in window strikes. The bird either shakes it off and flies away, or not. A few hours later, the bird either succumbs to cranial swelling, or not. Not much we can do for them but keep them safe until they can fend for themselves.

Here's a site about preventing window collisions: http://www.flap.org/residential.php

On Christmas Day I caught a mating pair of Red Shouldered Hawks(RSHs) while looking out of my front door. RSHs mate for life and the male is the smaller bird. It was a cold foggy day. iPhoto enhancement was used to bring out the hawks' colors. Photoshop was used only to bring the pair closer together.

No not a teenager. We moved here 3 years ago and my wife said she would do the shoveling. So she does and says she loves the exercise! :D

I love shoveling the snow as well--but when it gets to be too much we both go out and shovel. :) We rarely use our snow blower!

A happy ending! Poor bird, knocked him clear out for a moment!
