What is it?-Discussions

If Admiral is correct, which I'm sure he is, I must confess that I've never come across such a clothesline system. It does sound good, and avoids using clothes props to reduce line sag.

It's the spanner part of the pulley clothesline system. It maintains space between the upper and lower portion of the clothesline loop. It also prevents the line from sagging in the middle.

On that note, I have to go and hang some washing out. The washing machine has stopped the spin dry and I don't want to waste the sunny heat :)

Here's a photo that shows the device installed on the clothesline.

For the record, the current challenge posted in the "What Is It" thread is an iconic item. At least I think so.

You've raised my curiosity before I've looked at the thread Admiral. I'm thinking, is it piece of space debris? ;)

Yes, it's definitely an iconic item, Admiral. Like Kevin, I recognised what it was from the zoomed image up the road.

On a TV show called Four Rooms, punters bring in rare objects for dealers to make huge bids, in private, with them.
The highest bidder may win if s/he reaches the seller's expectations. In one episode a seller had some of the original Abbey Road name tiles which were in the actual photo for the album cover. It was an incomplete set of damaged tiles, and the seller was looking for £1,000s. It was a silly price, and I don't think the tiles sold.

I will check and post a link if available in an edit..... Waiting....

Well, that was as quick as Scifan solving a challenge. I Googled Four Rooms Abb.. and was offered ..ey Road Tiles! The link. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/four-rooms/articles/the-objects-series-2-episode-3

What a price!

You know I was one of those kids who'd stand on the road overpass and give the "yank the horn" sign when Mr. Big Rig approached. I don't remember a driver not giving a toot.

The short exchange of comments reminds me of overnighting in a log cabin in Hope, BC and hearing the logging train whistle echoing around the river valley. That was one of those sounds I wanted to hear in my lifetime.

I believe I camped for 3 nights near that cabin in Hope. :)

We also camped at Rogers Pass on the same trip. You could hear the freight trains groaning on the climb up.

Happy Days, Admiral. They were happy days. I should scan and post some photos from our trip.

It's a floor standing philco I inherited from my grandparents. You can't see it fully, but I even kept the bust of JFK they always displayed in top of it. The challenge is yours Admiral.

That's a super challenge, BostonDan. :) IMHO, the idea fits in well with some of the past the,es in this thread.

I did recognise your challenge object almost from the off, but wasn't in a position to continue with a new challenge. I remember that ball points of this type, wooden with metal hoops and pocket clips, were made as promotional items. The pens are quite chunky. I believe environmental organisations favoured them.

This is a follow up to my recent grapevine challenge. It's certainly not what you'd expect to see in a city back alley.

When I worked in Italy, I used to see similar things. Wherever there was a piece of ground, no matter how small, something would be growing there.
