Sorry, not a seat belt buckle. It's less than an inch wide and is entirely plastic. It goes around another part of the body.

Sorry, you're both wrong. It's designed to pull apart easily, so as to prevent possible injury or other problems.

Since no one has been able to guess the answer, here it is. It's a lanyard used to hold a name tag. The plastic catch is designed to release if someone yams on it or it becomes caught on something. Here's a photo of the whole thing.

The challenge is open to any iPF member who wishes to post a challenge.
