What's new

Where in the world?-discussions

Gabriel and Kevin are hammering out the details.
It appears likely the original thread will be blown up and we'll start fresh.

So say we all.

My sources say there is a way to continue WITW.
Some rule changes re: direct cut n' paste, attribution with links etc.

I'm happy for you to recommence based on no cut/paste without a hyperlink credit......although no cut/paste would be preferable and would introduce a new level of research.

I agree that no cut and paste will add a new dimension to the thread. Sometimes we lose sight of the learning aspect of WITW, in the race to be first.

This is a good thing.

What about the pictures used for challenges?

I agree, learning was supposed to be the USP and just copying doesn't actually involve a great deal of learning......hopefully this will be seen as a good time to refresh things

In terms of images, if they are not protected or watermarked you are generally ok but a link where it seems appropriate would not go amiss.

Agreed,we could use the information discovered in our research to write our own descriptions of the answers to the challenges.Pictures are another matter. We may have to use our own pictures, public domain pictures or copyright pictures that allow free usage with proper attribution. An example of this would be pictures credited to NASA.

Way to go.....seems like its time to light up the new thread!

I was sorry to read that WITW was closed, pending Copyright matters. However, I'm relieved to read here that the thread could re-emerge, with new rules etc. It's a case of good news/bad news.

I do hope something comes of this, an without the cut and paste. I've enjoyed the thread immensely.

This is an opportunity.

Those with knowledge but not quick to cut/paste can now enjoy......I think this is a great opportunity for a Phoenix to rise from the ashes and be even more inclusive, as the good Admiral says, it's a glass half full.

Scifan / Kevin,

Here is the crux of the copyright criteria as outlined by Gabriel.

"You can cut/paste if you credit with a hyperlink."

Will PM you both a Wiki link re: copyright, for your review.

Propose that we establish starter page rules as before. State that cut n' paste with hyperlink is permitted but original or re-written composition is encouraged. It avoids attribution issues and gets back to the spirit of the game which is see, seek and learn.

I'm ON CALL and have just been paged so I could be tied up for a bit. Suggest you gents
get the ship out of dry dock and clear the outer marker.

All ahead full.

I'm with AA. IMHO original composition is better than cut and paste. Original submissions are surely better educationally. Tink backtoschool days etc.

Admiral can start the new thread once we've decided what to put in the leader. That way two of us can edit the lead as required.
