Everyone is welcome to their own opinion.

The only time this should be a problem is if the iPad is laying flat or nearly flat. My iPad is in the Apple case, and I simply use the little prop tool to have it at a slight angle, and I never get any screen rotation while using on my couch or while stretched out on the recliner.

Why would you be laying it completely flat anyways?

I think people are complaining about it so they have something to be upset about. Stop letting it bug you so much, it's a little thing and you guys are sweating it like it's the end of the world.

It's not bugging me, it annoys me.
It's lying almost flat because my case doesn't have a prop tool and on the armrest it would be of no use anyways.
Still, it's a comfortable position for me to read.

So while you are reading, LOCK THE ROTATION, you can still do it, it just takes a double click, a swipe, and a tap. Not difficult at all.

Yeah, I know, it's not difficult. Still, I go from reading to web surfing and back. So a hardware switch would be more than welcome.

The mute button may fit apples product line up better, but I rarely use volume and sounds anyways (I never had a mute button on my real books, and I don't like music on web pages either). So I'd prefer being able to select what this switch does.
I hope there'll be something available in the JB section.

Yes thankfully there is a solution if you are Jailbroken. Wait for the new untethered JB which should be released for Christmas (according to someone on the dev team).

Please explain further how this is a massive problem.

I use mine for dealing with drawings, from penultimate, or from PDF files. I am constantly locking the screen rotation. I am not using the iPad as an ebook reader or for watching movies, so yes, for me the new lock process is a real pain. The ease of locking rotation was one of the features I liked when I purchased my ipad.

I bought an IPad with a rotation control switch at the side - exactly what I wanted. Portrait to read etc and switch to landscape to type and look at the web.

I want what I bought and apple has changed my IPad to a bl...y iPod.
^^^ exactly.

Ok, found it. Thanks.
It mutes sounds though. But I guess that doesn't really matter to me.
I found a lot of other features, too. I was always annoyed that safari switched pages everytime I opened a link in a new tab. Really cool

I liked the screen lock, the mute seems to be a waste of space, although Iphone users seem to disagree. I guess they are easily confused by the idea that a switch might be more useful having a different function on a different device, or maybe they are sedentary enough that it doesn't matter to them. Either way, since this was my only Apple product, I had no built-in bias for a mute switch, and was mobile enough with the Ipad, that it bothers me not having the screen lock on the side. So in the end, I will just consider this a lesson learned, and know that thanks to Apple, when I buy my next device there is now a nice selection of Ipad clones that aren't going to pull this sh*t when I upgrade the OS.
