Good luck getting Apple to allow you a choice with any function of the iPad. LOL

I liked the screen lock, the mute seems to be a waste of space, although Iphone users seem to disagree. I guess they are easily confused by the idea that a switch might be more useful having a different function on a different device, or maybe they are sedentary enough that it doesn't matter to them. Either way, since this was my only Apple product, I had no built-in bias for a mute switch, and was mobile enough with the Ipad, that it bothers me not having the screen lock on the side. So in the end, I will just consider this a lesson learned, and know that thanks to Apple, when I buy my next device there is now a nice selection of Ipad clones that aren't going to pull this sh*t when I upgrade the OS.

I'm sure this overly dramatic hissy fit will bring Apple to their knees. lol

I want the button changed back - I want to be able to lock the screen in place. What's the point of a muting switch that doesn't work?

How can I back up to the previous version of the software?

This is not a "hissy fit" - I totally agree that Apple should have left this alone - I loved it. Now they have changed it to a button that literally is useless. The absence of Flash bothers me more though.

Actually this bugs me more than flash. I bought the iPad knowing it doesn't do flash. I also bought the iPad with a rotation lock button.

But it still has one. It is just, now, a soft button with a tap of the home button twice.

Don't you think that it is much easier? I could never remember which side that button was on!

Otterbox and screen orientation switch

I like having the orientation switch onscreen now. It was annoying to get to the external switch using the otterbox case. The switch was nice though before I put on the case.

Well, I got my switch back as it was initially intented with that thingy NoMute from Cydia. Great. So there still is a choice, even if it has hiccups...

Didn't really use the switch all that much, so not much difference for me either way, although I do prefer the way it currently is, with the orientation lock as a soft key.. So I guess that puts my vote down as a "like it as a mute button"

Whenever I wanted to mute the volume anyways, I'd just hold down the vol down button.

I just yesterday updated my iPad and was mortified the orientation lock is gone. One of the main reasons I bought the IPad was to read ebooks and I do most of my reading in bed. I can no longer read in bed unless I learn to read sideways! Can no longer watch videos lying in bed either. This is very BAD! This just majorly changes the way I use my iPad and I am not happy. It should at least be an option.

It is really not that funny, and considered to be a major problem by many people. For me its a complete deal breaker, which is why I am still on iOS 3.2 (at least until an untethered JB is out).
