Apple has every right to change it. They own the rights and they can do whatever they want. I hope they switch it back, but they include a mild electrical shock transmitted through that stupid switch every time someone uses it. LOL

Call me an Apple fanboy, apologist, or whatever else you want, I don't care. THIS is absolutely hilarious! Comedy gold! "I AM MORTIFIED! TERRIFIED! APPLE HAS COMMITTED MURDER! THEY SHOULD BE SUED!"

LOL

Its you that really needs to calm down a bit. I get the feeling that you enjoy goading people who don't pray to Jobs 10 times a day, a militant fanboy if you will.

Now even if I were to assume that you are super thrilled about the button change, you have to realize that the majority are not. Its a very polarizing issue. This is never a good situation for any business. I assure you that the marketing department at Apple are in dire straights over this issue. Even if everyone who works at Apple strongly believes the button should function as mute, the backlash should be enough for any business to reconsider. More importantly this isn't a principled stance like flash. Anyone who knows anything about marketing would agree that this is a PR nightmare. (BTW Marketing and advertising are different things).

In conclusion, as a real fanboy who puts Apple's interests ahead of his own mother you should realize that this is hurting Apple. You may love it, but its bad for Apple. So you can keep arguing about how great the new button is, but this is not really the argument at all.

LOL at calling me a fanboy. The iPad is the first Apple product I ever owned, and I'm already ready to put it up for sale as soon as a better Android tablet comes out in a few months.

I don't love or hate the switch, I simply realize that it's really not a big deal. People are acting like Steve Jobs is holding their firstborn hostage or something. It's just very entertaining to see people say that they HATE their iPad now and are MORTIFIED by a simple change like this. Kinda like watching the movie Dumb and Dumber, you just can't help but to laugh hysterically at how stupid it is.

Well then stop ridiculing and goading people! Hyperbole is often used in the English language to emphasize a problem.

The problem I have with cloud computing is the relatively slow network connection speeds we are limited to and limited coverage areas. I know that 3G/4G speeds and coverage are getting better and better, but not to the point yet where I would call it a reliable alternative to old fashioned storage space and memory cards. Maybe in 4-5 years it will be to that point, but not yet, not for my needs at least.

I agree with you on full cloud computing, but as a means of backing up and syncing, it's a great supplement to a local on-board operating system.

Now back to the ridiculing and the goading!

They don't own the rights on products they already sold. Maybe the software, but not the device.
So if they change functionality of stuff they sold, they should either announce officially all the changes they made so everyone can decide which software they want to use or give the ability to revert to the software to the initial state.
Or implement a switch that let's everyone have his own thing.
But if you upgraded to 4.2.1, then there's no official way to go back to 3.x.
I thought at first that putting the lock icon into the taskbar was nice. Until I found out how often I use it.
I have it back now with unofficial help of JB, so I'm good.

But if you think that apple should reintroduce a lock switch with electrical shocking, then I wish you all your gadgets to change their buttons, switches etc. to change their behaviour over time. And if they do, I don't want to hear you complain. Then please embrace the all new functions of your switches and buttons. May it start with your key fob of your car...

Apple can change whatever they want about the software functionality and you can't do anything about it except whine and complain. They could make the iPad into a device that does nothing but play Hanna Montana songs over and over again. It's their product, you are just an end user, you have no right to say what they will do with the programming of their product.

Don't like it? Find a new product.

I welcome and embrace change, so whatever happens to any future device I own, I will accept. I love the way my key fob is now, it automatically unlocks the doors when I get about 10ft away. If they change that functionality, I'll deal with it or find a way around it, just like you have done with your iPad.

I normally don't ridicule anyone, but the whiners on this thread deserve every bit of goading they get.

I offer the whiners this:

Should go good with that "whine." :p

That's like saying "I don't beat normally my wife... unless she has it coming."

My wife uses my iPad as well and she asked about the lock switch the other day. I showed her how to access the software switch and she simply said "ok, thanks. " Had she responded the same way many people here have, I wouldn't have beaten her, but I would have made fun of her the same way I am making fun of the people in this thread. :)

I wish your gas pedal of your car will be switched to the brake pedal and vice versa. And whenever you try to change gears your radio will change stations.

I may not have the rights on apples Os, but I can literally do whatever I please with my iPad. That's why mine is jailbroken. If I wanted I could just stomp on that thing (I won't do that though. It still makes for the best mag-reader and internet tablet. See, I don't whine for flash support. Actually, I don't like flash based stuff and all the content is loaded with it which I don't need, like flash based ads.).
Apple won't be able to come to my home, take the iPad and claim it's theirs.

So yes, if You don't have anything to complain about the iPad or other stuff you own, then you must be ONE satisfied customer. I'm happy for you ;)
