Big Business - game discussion

I can finally get a new factory! I don't want to waste this stupidly rare opportunity. Should I buy another sawmill for convenience sake, or should I buy a cosmetics factory because it is so often needed for shipping containers?

My game philosophy is to get one of each factory and then go back and get another later. At least then I can be more self- sufficient on the cargo containers.

Yes, that is exactly what I need also, where is the mission window? Tapped the top lightening thing and got the same. Help!!!

Hi Donna. I'm assuming you're trying to work out how to use the battery. It's quite a confusing one, and something that kept many of us here guessing about for quite some time. It turns out that there are only certain 'energy collecting' tasks that the battery can be used for - so, for example, collecting the 85 units of energy in the 'module' tasks that come up regularly isn't something you can use the battery recharge for. However, for the big construction tasks, where you need to collect 1,000 energy for workers, this is where you can make use of the battery.

Basically, by mission window they mean the panel that opens up whenever you click on an icon in the left hand bar. Where you see your 'mission' - ie. collect 1,000 energy for workers - you should see another small button with a lightning bolt in it to the left of the big button that says 'Accept'.

Be warned - I don't think 'unused' battery capacity counts: so, if for example, you have a battery worth 500 energy units, and you need to collect only another 400 units for your task, then it will use up all 500, it won't let you hang on to 100, or even credit you with 100 (as 25 is the maximum amount of energy you can store at any one time). Of course, it might be that you're willing to sacrifice all 500 battery units anyway, but ideally I'd recommend timing things carefully so that you can make the most of it.

Unbelievable. For the last 2 weeks I have had no yellow hatted men, and this afternoon two come along at once. I am now finally on to the next bit, and have prepared everything so I am about to start work on the aluminum. It'll take a while, but at least I am in control a little more than I have been. Did someone say I can sell the aluminum after I have made it, rather than store the lot in the warehouse?

Yes you don't have to store the aluminum. I made a lot of cables with mine :-)

I agree. and JC8489 (Podunk) has really great advice. Others do also. You can do more contest also.

My strategy is quite similar as well. The only multiple factories I have are 5 farms, 2 ranches and 2 paper mills. Those duplicates I felt were fairly essential to the type of goods I produce. The 'happiness' too is at a fairly attainable level right now.

Then again, my strategy is to have one each of all the 'normal' factories. I only have the Electronics Plant left now which I should be able to add next weekend. Next step will be to upgrade all the factories that I do have. I have 3 levels to go on the Cosmetics and of course 5 on the Electronics. That will use up a good chunk of coins. Luckily I have some building brigades that will come in handy.

Once all the normal factories have been laid down, the next step will be to expand land while building lots of entertainment facilities. With the extra happiness gained, I hope to start building add duplicate factories.

With that being said, what does everyone else think about multiple factories? How would you rank them in order or importance/usefulness and how many to get of each? I want to make sure I maximize my happiness levels by adding factories that will be useful.

Cheers!

I don't have the electronics plant yet - don't really see a need for it. And I don't have my cosmetics plant fully upgraded. I just started getting second buildings with the chemical plant. I already have 3 paper mills, 2 dairy, 2 mills, 3 confectionary, 3 ranches, and 5 farms. The next building I'm thinking of getting a second sawmill or oil refinery or maybe a 3rd milling plant. So much to get, but first I need another 25K population!

This is similar to me: 5 farms, 3 confectionary plans, 3 mills, 3 ranches (just added the third one this past weekend), and 2 paper mills. I also just treated myself to a 2nd chemical plant, as I find that I need lots of products from this in order to meet port cargo requirements. When I reach my next factory milestone, I'll probably add a second dairy factory.

I got the electronics plant some time ago; never used it after completing all the upgrades and associated missions, so it's now languishing in storage.

I definitely need to get some more confectioneries and milling plants. I just know its going to be a massive uphill climb with the happiness level real soon

Hmm ... I might have to rethink my electronics plant purchase then. It is a nightmare to build with all the additional worker requirements! If I do plop it down, I know it will be a 6 month project to upgrade it all the way. I'm just a little OCD in that I can't stand to see the unfinished tasks on the left side of the screen.

I have 3 each of farm, paper, and ranch...2 each of mill, confectionary, and dairy, and 1 of everything else except radio and electronics.

At this point, I don't think I'm ever going to get the electronics. I've been focused lately on filling port containers (both mine and helping others) and none of those items have ever been in cargo containers. Same reason why I'll never fully upgrade the cosmetics or radio factory. The higher items have never shown up in a cargo container (with the exception of in a bonus container, but I don't care about those)

I'm able to place 2 more factories at the moment and I'm thinking it is going to be the radio and another oil refinery. The items from the oil refinery are always showing up in containers so it might be nice to have 2. I'm also thinking about deleting one of my paper mills and just having 2..I don't use them that often except to make juice and puzzles.

I would love to be able to save up a ton of money and build/upgrade all my buildings at once and then use the big hammer...but I don't think I have the patience to wait that long...

I know what you're saying about the task on the left hand side. I want to get rid of it too....but it's definitely not worth having the electronics right now. Maybe somewhere far down the road I'll get it, but right now it's more beneficial to have other factories. Especially with the happiness levels...other factories prove much more worthwhile to get.

JC8489/SteveGPI - you seem to have cleared off quite a bit of the available land. Would you mind tell me what you next piece of land costs? I don't think there's any information online about land prices, and I was just curious what rate the land prices increased at. Thanks!

My land squares are currently costing me 3,735,000 credits (or 60 city credits). I've expanded quite rapidly just recently, thanks to a lot of accumulated "free land" or "reduced price land" tokens in storage. I must admit, I do tend to get bored and buy city credits purely for the purpose of keeping the expansion going - I don't usually spend city credits on buildings etc, I wait for events to try and pick most of those up. I guess I just like my farms to look and feel like farms (ie. be surrounded by some green area!) rather than all squished up in a few squares.
