Food anyone?

That must be what they mean by "Being on the Dole":-)

Can it cope with square-cornered cans? As in, those with bully beef?

No for square cans I generally use a G.I. Tanto point blade, with quillion guard. The polypropylene handle scale prevents grip slip. Easy on the fingers. ;)

That's quite a blade! And so neatly safe with the quillion!

Does it open bully cans best when thrown by the blade or the handle?

I see that Amazon points out:
>>>"In a survival or self-defense situation, it can be quickly and easily be converted into a spear or war club."

Which must be a useful multi-tasking addition for such an intrepid explorer as yourself--who might have actually visited whatever the planet is where quillion is mined?

Am going dangerously against the flow here:-)...but I actually *enjoy* preparing things like pineapple, cooking apples & veg etc!

Think this peculiarity started when we bought a very big Sabatier knife, which just gets the cutting jobs done beautifully. Not all types of cutting of course, but those that need big, satisfying chomps. We actually fight over who gets it first:-)

This came home to me when my visiting sister chose a tiny serrated knife to cut big carrots--it made me shiver to watch her. Her take was that the big knife was "dangerous". It's the complete opposite!!! (IMHO)

What do you guys use?

(Or, for the Open Mouths among us, NOT use??:-):-):-))

I'm inept in the kitchen. I can get the job done, but not with any skill. My husband is a foodie with good knives, but he could out-prep me even with a rusty spoon, lol.

He uses a bunch of knives, but he favors a Japanese brand: Professional Chef?s Knives & Japanese Kitchen Knives | Global Knives

His go-to knife is a cleaver, though.

The only thing I mine is Tylium ore, usually found on asteroids and planetary moons.

The fleet started with two refinery ships but we lost the "Daru Mozu" during the debacle on New Caprica.

We rely solely on the "Hitei Kan" for our propulsion.

Those Yoshikin knives are enviable cooking tools! Certainly a step up from a rusty spoon:-)

The cleaver is probably a cut too far for us--we don't often need to cut up carcasses. Only when we invite what's-his-name for dinner....? Oh, Damien Hirst, him.

I'm prepared to acknowledge anyone else's superiority in the kitchen and quickly get out of the way, so that they can work their magic and serve me tasty morsels, lol.

Presume that propulsion would mostly be FTL?

Which, before we get Cyloned, brings us neatly around to "Foods To Like":-)

What do you eat / drink while on board? Hydroponically-produced stews or just tablets?

Nope. Colonial eats are down to reconstituted algae. Algae mash, crackers and protein bars.
Raw food's kaput. Some frozen but the black marketeers seem to be controlling that these days.

Water is plentiful. Chief Tyrol's running a still
and my XO seems to have a bottomless well
of high grade hooch. Privately, I'm beginning to wonder if he's a Cylon.

Wow, dining looks bleak in the future (?). I think I might skip that trip in the time machine after all.

Algae...yuk! I wouldn't last long.
Re the hooch, you might also consider suspecting K--she seems to hang around that area of the galley supplies. But best to keep that under wraps for now.
