What's new

Food anyone?

We went to Max Brenner last night....it's a chocolate shop serving all manner of chocolate goodies.

We had Italian hot chocolate.........so so sweet!

And chocolate fondue with strawberries, banana, marshmallows and little pieces of banana bread.

Talk about od'ing on chocolate....I left feeling quite ill!

Will I do it again....most definitely! ;)

I know of only one Max Brenner's in Canada and it's in Toronto. Never been but I think I'll go now.

Love fondue. I do a cheese one and chocolate one at the same time at home. I like boozing up my chocolate with various liqueurs, lol. I'm not a big chocolate eater normally, but I like fondue because of the combo, and because I can use bittersweet chocolate. I recently tried crystallized ginger in bittersweet chocolate spiked with kirsch. I've also tried it spiked with pear brandy. Yum yum yum.

Word on the street is Hostess Brands may go out of business. Wonder if that means the end of "Twinkies" and "Ding Dongs"? Gasp!

I expect that if the company ceases operation, it's brands will be bought by another company and remain in production.

That's sounds good--the choco strawberries would be my fav. Did they have marshmallows to dip in also? Love that as well!

Yes, I like food that injures me, lol.

I like to ear foods that injure also and always ask myself afterwards...why!

Right now, I am having toasted Italian bread with a few slices of cheddar on top for brekkie, ;)

Hostess has just confirmed it's closing, liquidating assets and as you mentioned sci, selling its brand names. Wonder if Galen Weston is on the phone with them now?

There is a very unfortunate part to this story. 18,000 people will lose their jobs.

Yes, lots of marshmallows....I find them sooo sweet. Loved the different chocolates also, Dark, milk and white melted chocolate.

That's sad news, especially with the number of redundancies.

I'm afraid a few names will go under the current economic conditions. Here in the UK, Comet electrical goods sellers went into liquidation owing a fortune, and with Christmas so close.

Isn't that the company John Brewett came from, Richard? He's just been fired from Apple.

Yes, very sad for the 18000 people. Having gone through this with my hubby, it's absolutely awful. He felt useless. 20+ years of loyalty to one company as manager went up in smoke. His redundancy money went towards living expenses and he was on the dole (first time ever in his lifetime) for 6 months. A lucky meeting at the local town Xmas fair and he works for the local bakery at farmers markets. The only drawback is he doesn't get paid as much and has to work longer hours aand two jobs to get the same money. oh well, c'est la vie. There is a silver lining for some but 18 000 people?
