Food anyone?

What kind of fruits did you get in Trinidad?

I don't know much about the place, but I'm guessing that the food is tasty there because of the mix of cultures.

OK.

Pineapples, Mangoes, Citrus fruits, papaya, and bananas were the main components of the fruit salad.

Other fruits, not for fruit salads, are guava (I found gave too strong and sickly - I cannot eat it), coconut, Ackee, avocado, carambola ( Chinese star apple), cashew, christophene (chayote), golden apple, granadilla, mammee apple, sapodilla soursop, tamarind and tomato.

I found a very useful app in the Apple Store. It contains a dictionary, glossary of cooking terms and various conversion charts.

It's very handy :). Look up cooking in the store. The app is free :)

We have rambutans here too......they look great on a fruit platter for something different.....I prefer lychees though.

Carambola or star fruit are another good one for show......

Star fruit is one of my favorites, but I like it sweet rather than tart! :) Kaykaykay can have my tart ones!

Richard, I like guava with a little sea salt sprinkled on it. The first time I had it was in Manila when I was visiting my grandma many years ago!

Sounds good. The fruit salad ingredients should be available to you even in the UK, No?

I see some of the others you mention at Asian markets near us, but not in great quantities.

I like tamarind candy a lot, the Filipino kind. (Also tart, Skimonkey, lol. They were like the sour patch kids of our day, lol.)

Cherimoyas are among my favorites of tropical fruits, but I see them only now and then in the U.S., and quality is hit or miss. Boo.

Has anybody used Durians? They sell them at the Grocery store I work at.

I've eaten them, but they have a strong smell that some people describe as a stench, lol, so they're not for everyone. I've just eaten them raw, and as an ice cream or candy flavor. Some people make smoothies out of them, too.

Some of my family members love it and others can't stand it. So those of us who like it eat it, and the others flee, holding their noses, lol.

When I was in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago, there were signs in many hotel lobbies that Durian was banned from being bought into the establishment.

While looking for Durian photos, I saw a photo of a warning sign banning Durians from public transit in Singapore.

You remind me of the "No Fish allowed in the metro" signs in Dubai. :)
