imovie on ipad2 can ONLY edit ipad videos

When I transfer videos taken by my iPad to my pc it shows up as MOV files. Now that iCloud is running, can we just put MOV files on the photo stream folder on the pc and then iCloud will automatically show it on the iPad, then we can save it to our photo stream and edit away on iMovie?

Haven't tried it yet but will surely try tomorrow. I'm too lazy to get off the bed right now. Hehehe.

apple came out with an update to imovie a few days ago - i can now see my recorded talking tom cat videos in imovie. I haven't tried imported external camera videos yet,...i'll try that next.

Well, Apple said it was adding compatibility with more cameras. Only makes sense that they would support the top brands. Wish I had one to test out. :D

My Canon DSLR is too old to have video.

I have one, but still no an Ipad (I´ll buy one the next 24 of october...)

There is a free app called MovieConverter which I have not had time to try yet. Has anybody tried it? I think it was pay ware before the new iMovie came out.

i can upload some samples of video of my eos 5d mark ii in 1080p and 720p in 24, 25 and 30 fps, if you want to test out.

I see this:

Today Apple pushed out an update to iMovie, bringing this revision up to version 1.2.2.This update is a smail update which fixes some minor issues and expands support for videos imported from external cameras.
iMovie 1.2.2 is available under the updates tab in the iTunes AppStore as usual, or if you haven’t downloaded it yet, then all you need to do is search for “iMovie” in the AppStore. Please be advised that there is a price tag associated with this app, so be aware of that before you install it.

this morning i did the following tests with success:

1) i am using an olympus digital camera that i bought several years ago and took a movie and used the camera connection kit to download the movie directly to my ipad - it works!

2) i grabbed a previous movie file taken with the same camera (copied from my pc) - added it to itunes, then chose under advanced setting to convert it to ipod then copied that file from itunes into a library that i have setup for itunes to sync with the ipod - synced it to my ipad and it also works. I had to do all of this because mov files from my computer will not sync to my computer...even though these are the same type of files that when synced directly from the camera work just fine.

hth

I had an issue as I had several old files that where already in M4a format, instead of adding them to itunes I created a folder called "vids" put the files in it and then added that folder to my photo folders to be synced, it worked perfectly and I found the files showed up instantly as video's in imovie

It seems the problem with "imovie on ipad2 can ONLY edit ipad videos" it´s fixed on imovie 1.2.2 and iOS5.

I agree. At least the problem I was having has been solved. After upgrading to iOS5 and iMovie 1.2.2 (giving up the 4.3.3 jailbreak) I can now use the CCK to transfer stills or videos from my camera's SD card and use them on my iPad2. This is true for any of the four video modes my Kodak Playsport camera uses (WVGA, 720p@30 fps, 720p@60 fps, and 1080p).

Prior to this I could only easily transfer stills; videos taken in WVGA format had to be converted on my XP netbook first. The other three video formats would not transfer.

Now, I just pop the SD card out of the camera, put it in the CCK, import the stills or videos, and they all show and play in the Photos app, in Camera Roll, and in iMovie. It's what I wanted to be able to do when I got the iPad2 in the first place.

How about this one. My daughter and I have the same Panasonic TM60P HD video camera. She has a MacBook and can easily upload from the camera into IMovies. I have an iPad2 and can only upload still photos, it doesn't recognise the video clips which are in HG1920x1080 format. Even if I try to load them from an SD card via a card reader it refuses to recognise the media. As iMovies is supposed to be the same on any apple platform, isn't this recognised as a 'problem' rather than a 'feature'?

Oh come on! I'm not a professional, I AM the average Joe Public. I just want to load my home videos from a universally popular brand camera into a device that claims it is the bees knees when it comes to media viewing. Once I am able to get the film loaded into iMovies I know that software will be more than enough to do whatever I want with it. The problem is the initial load to the iPad, which I still maintain is a 'problem' with the device which really needs addressing. Nobody's really suggesting I just throw away my (last year's model) camera just because Apple haven't got round to fixing their problem. Are they?
