iOS 5- what would you like to see for iPad?

I agree with you. Hopefully, app developers will find way to introduce FLASH to iPad without consuming too much battery!

You should type in "Steve Jobs and Flash" into YouTube and watch an interview in which he talks about why Flash isn't there. I found it quite enlightening.

I did what u told me. I watched Steve Jobs' interview in D8. Now I finally saw the whole picture. I was totally enlightened. I love my iPad2 more than ever. Adobe Flash may seem to be popular today but it won't be like forever bcoz HTML5 will dominate the web in coming months. More web developers and apps developers will certainly apply the HTML5 technology.

One more thing, is there a website where i can watch the entire Steve Jobs' interview in D8 that i can go to? I want to watch it entirely but not in a installment manner like in Youtube.

Thank you, iPad 2 is cool.

Type in d8 Steve jobs into YouTube, and look for the playlists for d8 2010. Should be in 10 parts.

This HTML5 thing...

unfortunately sounds to me a bit like a car manufacturer saying that they don't produce petrol cars anymore because in the very near future petrol stations will disappear and we will all be charging our cars form the mains...which is a fine vision...but what about today???

And I do come across web browsing "dead ends" because of the flash issue. Reading up on Seve Ballestero's death took me to the European Tour website where you can watch videos of memorable shots etc...IF you have flash of course. Happened again recently while browsing a TV website. But that's IOS life...

Best,

Paul.

i guess I am seeing the opposite. I am seeing fewer and fewer sites that don't use HTML5 or have an app if they don't. Maybe HTML5 adoption is slower in Europe?

Sorry. I didn't find another. There is a video in it's entirety on YouTube but it took some finding. I had no problems going from one to the other.

There is also a 1 hour long special with the 2 tech gurus Bill Gates & Steve Jobs, amazing, fabulous mutual respect. Done by the same crew. Great viewing. Also to be found on YouTube.

Glad you enjoyed the first recommendation.

I recommend you watch the whole interview before passing comments. I truly shared your views before I watched it. You should also watch a video by the Adobe flash developers who agree with some of the point Steve had to make.

One very valid point Steve makes is that he (team) picks and chooses from the masses of software out there and decides what to include. Ultimately it is down to the consumer to make the final judgement on whether they agree or not and want his product or not, the market can decide, he in no ways forces the consumer to choose his product. Bill Gates has echoed similar views in interviews also, 2 giants you truly can't argue with.

I recommend you watch these and comment again, let's see if you are sold or not.

Nope, almost all sites I have visited in the last 2 months have incorporated HTML5. I am sure there will be many examples to the contrary, but given that the iPad dominates the tablet market and more than 15 million have been sold, if the site does not catch up quick, it will lose huge business, given the state of the economy I think it's keep up or perish. HTML5 will therefore go huge in this year, don't you agree ?

I knew flash was a no-no when I bought the Ipad. That's what stops me from thinking something is wrong with the browser when I do come across a site that requires it. It still, however, detracts from the Ipad experience. At least that is how I feel when I come across a Flash dead end. Out of curiosity I re-checked and the official European golf Tour site requires flash, as does the official FC Barcelona site, the Real Madrid FC site...and I gave up investigating any further because that was a 100% rate of flashless success. Makes you wonder how important HTML5 really is (for Ipad compatibility) to at least these three relevant sports sites a whole year after the Ipad was launched.

15 million Ipads may be a huge share in the tablet world, but I would argue that it's pretty insignificant in the total Internet user base.
But I do look forward to the worlwide transformation to HTML5. It will make the Ipad experience on the internet much better if not perfect.

All the best,
Paul

Edit: Manchester united official site doesn't play videos either.

That is one deficit I found: the lack of HTML5 support by online (legitimate) sports programming. There is ESPN3.com here for watching a range of sports programming beyond what they air on TV, but that doesn't support HTML5, but they do have an app now for those who have the right cable provider (which apparently is a subset of those who have access to ESPN3, i.e. not me). Fox Soccer Channel has a website that provides access to dozens of live soccer matches each week on a subscription basis, but that site isn't html5 compatible. AC Milan have an app so I haven't checked the compatibility of their website.

It already exists (sort of). Mail.app, iCal, as well as QuickTime player already exists with a different name and a different icon.

I understand your views, thankfully I am not a football fan or I too would I am sure be feeling your pain. Hope your sites get HTML5 additions soon. Thought about writing to the site handlers ?

I also agree that 15 million iPad based internet users on a global term does not sound like very many, but the worldwide PC boom started with only 1 computer. Tablets will of course go the same way as technology advances. I honestly over the last 2 months have not found a single site that required Flash that pertains to my interests, a few months ago this was not the case, about 50% miss rate back then.
