I think there is probably a big difference between announcing and releasing, but I could be wrong!

I read some where when apple talk about new release of firmware at a show that firmware is pushed out 7 to 10 after the show

I think it would be pretty unusual for a completely new platform to be released within hours of an announcement @ WWDC. Usually what they say is that the SDK is available immediately, and the launch follows on quite a while later (weeks or months)... Apple relies on the developer community to beta test. Let's see if I'm wrong...

From my understanding once a bootrom exploit is found the only way apple can 'patch' it is by changing the hardware (eg from A4 chip to A5 chip).

User land exploits are the ones that can can patch easily through firmware updates.

Correct. If there is a Bootrom exploit, the only way Apple can patch it, is by releasing newer models of their iDevices(not chips)with a patch for the exploit. Apple did it with the iPod touch 2nd gen with the MC model. Also, they did it with the 3GS old Bootrom to new Bootrom. I remember I was one of the people who had the new Bootrom 3GS and I had to deal with not having a Jailbreak for 6 months until Jailbreakme at 4.0!!! While all the old bootrom 3gs's enjoyed a jailbreak, all of us new bootroms had to wait. Just like all the people on 4.3.1 and over on the iPad2 are gonna have to wait!!(hopefully not 6 months) I know alot of people on here are probably not gonna like that. I remember how Jailbreaks kept being released and they were for 3GS old Bootrom only and I kept thinking that it was unfair. But that's how the Jailbreak game goes. Sometimes it's great, then sometimes you have to wait!

I think what I am gonna do is just purchase an iPad 2 and keep the iPad 1st gen that I have and see what happens. To sell my old one for one that will most likely never get jailbroken is a waste of time. If the new iPad 2 ever gets jailbroken to the newest firmware I will sell my old one..nothing wrong with having two iPads in the house I have tried finding an iPad 2 that has 4.3 on it and its impossible..if anyone knows ANY stores that sell them please let me know
