I hope they don't decide to switch their efforts to 4.3.2 for iPad 1! They have their jailbreak already.. iPad 2 owners need some love.

By the way, why are they dumping the bootrom from the iPad 2? To find another SHAtter? Wasn't it a few years before they found the bootrom exploit for other devices? I would stay on 4.3 my whole life if I had to.. I just want one jailbreak.

There are many iPad 2's that started on 4.3.1. The JB will probably be for 4.3.1, and I hope it will.
And sorry, I didn't really answer yours question. ^^

I could be wrong (and I probably am) but I thought that Apple patched the exploit in 4.3.1 that the devs found in 4.3 and that's why they were telling everyone to not upgrade and stay at 4.3. If that is the case then I would be surprised if the JB was for 4.3.1. Time will tell though, keep telling myself I must be patient but it ain't easy :D

I still don't understand, why would the JB be for 4.3? If there is a way to get a JB for the iPad 2 legally, than it shouldn't be hard to get one for 4.3.1. All other devices on 4.3.1 can have untethered JB now, so why not the iPad 2 once there is a legal way?
The problem is just the A5 chip now, or am I just totally wrong?

You are correct, the A5 chip.

In order to install the jailbreak, an exploit has to be used to circumvent Apple's security measures. And since the only known exploit works on 4.3, it is possible, that the first iPad 2 jb will only work with iOS 4.3, unless someone else finds an exploit for iOS 4.3.1/2 soon.

What would be the difference with the other devices? Isn't the exploit already found?

From what I understand it's a hardware issue, the iPad 2 has the A5 chip where the older devices have the A4 chip and they function some what differently. The initial 4.3 firmware was jailbroken but at this time they can't release it because that jailbrake used Apple's coding. In order to not be in legal trouble they have to redo the coding themselves as Apple has a copyright on their coding. I could have this wrong but skimming through a bunch of posts it seemed thats what the issue was.

Also rule of thumb is never update your firmware until a jailbrake has been released for that firmware.

Yes I know, but if there is a 4.3 jailbreak for the iPad 2, why wouldn't there be a 4.3.1 JB than?

Simply because the exploit used was patched by Apple on 4.3.1.

Yes, but that's irrelevant. We don't need a 4.3 exploit on other devices.
Whatever Comex is doing on 4.3 can't be done on 4.3.1+ on iPad2 because Apple patched it.
And the exploits we have for 4.3.1+ on iPad1 dont work on the iPad2 yet because they rely on the A4 bootrom exploit, and we don't have one for A5.

Does that clear it up?

I'm on 4.3 should I update?

No, I don't think that's a good idea

Thank you. I'm new to the world of oh jail breaking/shsh blobs etc. I've read f4 sticky on his sig but I can get any shsh backups since apple stopped signing and my window to back up 4.3.1 will close any day now. I've read in PC world 4.3.2 has been jailbrokn with custom pwnage tools that's why asked.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Yes, it looks as though 4.3.2 will be good for jailbreaking. Just needs a minor update to the tools to reenable the untether. It appears Apple didn't patch the untether after all...
