OK. Now it's more clear that we're far far from iPad2 JB. Or in other words - not even started!

The next method (as I understood) is firmware exploits ("userland"; I don't know what that means). Comex and others are working on that. Right? And there was even a progress made/showed by Comex (but not published).

So the firmware based jailbreaks can give more hopes at the moment. Right?

As there's no reliable information regarding the iOS firmware hacks... well... It's good that iPad2 is brilliant even without the JB :) That's the only good news.. really.

I'm a bit confused about this as well. If I understand correctly, userland jailbreaks seem to be the type of jailbreak used before SHAtter came out, and SHAtter was supposedly a huge deal. It took them years to find the first bootrom exploit on iDevices (am I wrong?). So, why look for something that is so hard to find? You'd think that they could settle for something less for the first jailbreak.

However, hardware must play a role somewhere; even on a userland jailbreak, no? If the bootrom exploit was never found in the iPad, I don't think a userland jailbreak for the iPad 1 4.3.2 would inherently work for the iPad 2.

I believe (and I could be wrong) that userland jailbreak = tethered jailbreak, correct?

But I agree, why would they worry about a bootrom (untethered) jailbreak when they could probably find a userland jailbreak much easier?

i THINK userland doesn't necessarily mean tethered, it means software dependent, which means it's patchable. bootrom exploits are harder to patch, as they rely on hardware. not 100% sure about this though

Just relax and enjoy the wait, it'll be awhile for this new JB to hit the shelves for us iAd 2 owners. In the mean time, check out AppAdvice in the AppStore and see the latest and greatest news on Apple and apps that are free. Also provides discounted accessories for your iPad 2.

Enjoy!

Yep, except geohot doesn't have an iPad 2, yet. So the race to jb it first hasn't even started :(

We should all get together and buy geohot a 16 gig ipad 2.......there would be some motivation for him

Since geohot got banned from the ps3 scene....Looks like p0sixninja challenged him to see who can dump the bootloader first.

GeoHot accepts an iPad 2 hacking challenge; jailbreak should be coming soon - Phone Arena

Some quotes from the previous page :D

Let's hope geohot can get his hands on an iPad 2 soon.

Any idea what's the best website to go to for latest updates on this?

I'd like to be able to download it AS SOON AS IT'S AVAIL

That should cover all bases. Or perhaps also follow one of those fake geohot accounts ;)

Some accually give interesting information, not about the iPad 2 JB though.

So geohot doesn't have an official twitter account, huh?

He doesn't, but there are various people who gladly take up that job and tweet under @geohot, @geohotus, @geohot_us, etc. For obvious reasons do they know us much as us, so whether it is worth following them is an open ended question :D

"Userland" is a jailbreak exploit found throuh the firmware. "bootrom" exploit is through the hardware. It has nothing to do with being tethered. Jailbreakme.com was userland and also untethered.
