"Userland" is a jailbreak exploit found throuh the firmware. "bootrom" exploit is through the hardware. It has nothing to do with being tethered. Jailbreakme.com was userland and also untethered.

Thanks for the clarification!

How come doesnt say anything about the geohot vs chronic dev team challenge?

Because it doesn't report on rumor, innuendo, speculation and other fluff that pollutes the online community regarding jailbreaks. Twitter and Facebook have enough of that for everyone. What you can rely on is that when a jailbreak is confirmed and released it will be on dev-team. As i said, if not, then its fake. *** EDIT - READ THE RULES ABOUT LINK POSTING ***
Cheers

I think it is still just a rumour. Or is it confirmed? Did not see any message from Geohot.

i think it's confirmed judging by the profile of the websites that have been reporting the news. the dev team blog doesn't do such posts though, it just gives really essential information to users. but ya the jailbreak WILL be there before other places, unless someone else releases it outside of the dev team.

"cemetery is haunted" - absolutely classic.

Patience iPad2ers. Good progress with the bootrom is obviously being made.

But MuscleNerd didn't say he dumped the iPad2 bootrom ;)

Maybe he's analyzing any dump of the previous iDevices.

And even if he dumped it, it doesn't automatically mean that he will find an exploit ;)

I'm too pesimistic today.

Well, you should never assume, but my assumption is that we have plenty of dumps of previous bootloaders. This is a new one...

And if it was from another device than the iPad 2 we probably already knew about the funny "panic" message, right?
