Post your Pet

This isn't about my own pet but thought this little fellow (after being spotted on another thread) deserved an airing here too. He has a "novel" bark!!

He has another skill of pie-flinging:

No, not something you expect when you've plighted your troth!!

When you write "when she is out", does that mean out in your garden or out for a walk (glide?) down to the park?? And how do you take her to the vet? Has she got the equivalent of a cat box / cage? Or perhaps you carry her around your neck for convenience?:-)

If she really got curious about something, could she travel fast enough to outrun you?

Forgive these nosy questions...I am interested! (Can look after dogs & sheep, but haven't a clue about keeping a snake.)

LOL

When she is out means out of her vivarium which my husband built for her. It took a year to build and is extremely secure which it needs to be as we have two dogs in the house as well as her and we have to ensure she cannot accidentally escape,

She goes to the vets twice a year for a check up and we put her in an ice hockey bag, it is the only thing large enough to carry her and we can put a small padlock on it to stop her opening the zip (which she did once and we had a loose python in the car, luckily she was smaller then and it was easy for me to put her back in).

We never put her round our necks as she is too big for that now and could easily strangle a person, we carry her using two people (we are very conscious of the dangers of owning such a large snake).

If she wanted to, yes she could move very fast but as she is fed regularly she does not have the need to move fast. I don't think she could out run a human but she could strike and bite at a rapid speed if she was startled of frightened.

I don't mind the questions, there are a lot of people who take on a Burmese python not realising how big they actually get and how much work they are. Luckily in the UK we don't get many people releasing snakes into the wild but I do know it is a problem in the US particularly in Florida where now they are breeding in the wild. One thing that would help the situation is if every potential large snake had to be microchipped by law then if one was caught in the wild it could be traced back to the owner who could then be arrested for animal cruelty, endangerment, and anything else that could be thrown at them.

Rhapsody is microchipped mainly in case she ever did escape (unlikely with the setup we have) at least we would have a chance of getting her back.

Our local policeman brings the rookies round to our house to give them experience of snakes so if they ever come across them on duty they have and idea of what to do or not to do lol

Aww thankyou Mollysmom, we try our best. All the animals are rescue, 1 burmese python, 1 Colombian rainbow boa, 1 Greek spur thigh tortoise and 2 dogs lol

Even the neighbours (who don't really like snakes) don't mind about the python because they know how she is kept and appears to be a burglar deterrent hehehe. Would love to see the reaction of a burglar coming face to face with Rhapsody !!!

I feel bad, sad, not knowing what to do. My brothers and sisters want my Sheba (****-tzu) put to sleep. She's already blinded with cataract, has cysts, has hearing problem, and walks to slow. My feeling is too attached. I am doing my best to prolong her life but everyone's insisting not to prolong her agony. I could not bear the idea of letting her go.
