It is....I had never even thought of what happens with these dogs before.....it certainly was an eye opener when I found out.

I can imagine.

A friend of mine is part of an organization which find homes for greyhounds....ones that don't make the cut for racing and those which have finished their racing careers. The practice was to just PTS, it's an area where people just don't realize the huge numbers that are put down all the time. So far she personally has saved just over a hundred of them by finding good homes.

The same happens over here, it became quite a scandal which probably explains the decline in greyhound racing......at least folks recognise the problem and welfare charities try to help out....but you would think that in the 21st century we could stop some of these practices.

I agree, i was disgusted when news started to appear about the walthamstow dog races were to be restarted or something, just awful. Yet in the same place in walthamstow east London they wanted to demolish the old cinema theatre (to make houses) where Alfred Hitchcock saw his first ever cinema, he was born down the road in Leytonstone. Totally shambles

Well we need a scandal here for anything to happen.....they do try to raise money themselves, but its mostly the dedication of these people who take the dogs into their own homes, while waiting for others to adopt them, that any dogs get saved at all. The government needs to step in to ensure that this Racing industry is held accountable for these dogs.

Very interesting posts you guys! All my babies are rescues and I love them all. All 30+ of them lol.

I give money to the RSPCA every month. I can't afford it but can't quite stop the payment. I keep thinking of all those animals suffering. Love all the new animals on here.

Good for you Hayles, if I had the money I would have an animal sanctuary here in Ontario. Perhaps the Lottery Gods will help make that happen ;)

Hello Roy Rob. Loved your avatar so I nicked it if that's alright with you. I love Elf with Will Ferrell.

I have dogs, cats, horse, pony, chickens, ducks, goldfish and a cockatiel called Jack. It sounds like we live on a farm doesn't it? We live in a village and rent the field next door for the horse and pony. They are native to UK so can live off the grass with hay in the winter to supplement their intake. They still look porky though.

Pray for the sake of all living beings, let me win the lotto!!! When we ask for something that will also benefit the greater goodwill it will come to fruition. I will expect my check in the mail ... ;)

You obviously 'ave no 'elf control Hayles, to nick my avatar. No problem 'cause I nicked it from somewhere myself. Oh.... and I'm the 'backward' Scot, Roy Rob by the way :)

Ha ha. While I was changing it, you were correcting me! Lol. Sorry. No sorry, no elf control, at all. I'm on Xmas film no. 23 so far. I try to watch as many Xmas films as I can. I now have sky HD + so a lot of films available to me. I also have Netflix and all the UK tv apps.

Thanks. They both need a haircut yet again. They meet me at the door on a Friday night after I've been away all week, and lead me to the kitchen for treats (for them, not me).
