Yes. It just flashed on my Dradis console and I can see it coming up on the starboard side. Was worried the thread got lost in a nebula.

The anything goes thread is currently missing from the hot threads list on the home page.

I get it now,if a thread is inactive for more than 7 days,it disappears from the Hot Threads list.A new post will put it back in the list.

Well, we can't let that happen, can we? Anything Goes is one my favourite threads from way back.

Anyone live in an engineered neighbourhood with by laws that govern exterior colours for buildings and articles that can be visible on your property like clotheslines, fire pits etc.

I do somewhat, I have a very old historical house that is on the registry, so I have to be very careful with what I do to it

I wouldn't call it an “engineered neighborhood" but our small development (about120 homes, built 2001 - 2003) has restrictions placed by the developer that are now enforced somewhat by the homeowners association. Included are such things as no clotheslines, no storage sheds (though some people do have "playhouses"), no metal swing sets - plastic or wood are O.K., no fences taller than four feet. Why do you ask?

I live in one and was curious how prevalent the practice is. Colour schemes are limited to earth tones. Umbrella clothes lines are permitted but not running wheel lines that attach to posts or your house and a post. Fences restrictions including style and materials. Strict open fire ban.

I grew up in small town Canada where you did whatever you wanted too. If your neighbour was offended by something, you settled it with coffee at the fence line.

Big city, big rules, big taxes. I often wonder what I'm doing here.

There are a lot of newer areas here like that, with the same restrictions also. It all depends on the area as to the restrictions that are set. Some acreage bushland developments are only allowed open type fencing as to allow wildlife to come through properties.

Open Fireplaces were banned by our Council many years ago, they have to be the energy efficient closed fire places now. We built our house before the laws were changed so we do have an open fireplace.

One of my Canadian cousins lives in a newish development in South Edmonton. All of the houses are of one colour, and the roof coverings are restricted to a choice of 3 colours. The estate looks rather foreboding.

Years ago, i lived in a new town. The front gardens couldn't have fences or hedges. The houses wr of a certain type very similar. The housing estates were drab.

We do prefer living in a more mature area with it's mix of house types and architectural styles from over the past 120 years or so.

I have heard of this. So sad that humans can place such restrictive guidelines. We are not alike and never will be. What is great for one person isn't so for another. I would never willingly live there. Thank god I live where I do. However, I do agree with restrictions on grade 1 and 2 houses.

There are actually developments here that have redundancy clauses for the construction of new houses. However they still all look the same. Nothing is unique or of its own. Older is better.
