What's new

The "Anything Goes" thread

You know it's a fairly serious project when you see those little cubicles, the blue one by the corner of the house. Ours here are not as pretty; plain unpainted corrugated iron;)

We call them Porta-Potty's

One thing I've never seen in my city is Mercedes concrete delivery trucks. Is your neighbour building another garage or a house extension?

Yes, it's a 2 storey side extension which will contain 3 bedrooms. A new garage will be going up in the rear corner of the garden.

Here is a shot of two energetic buskers at our market this afternoon. They played gypsy music and are always a hit?

Here's a shot I took of two buskers in the city a few days ago. It's the first time I had seen a didgeridoo and a violin played together. They were very good actually.

In my youth, buskers were penniless musicians trying to make a buck.......now it appears they have a PA, a Facebook account and a huge metal ball, how times have changed.......

LoL - thanks for the laughs Gabe. I can use all I can get. Better sign out if I want to get ANY sleep this morning, 1:58 AM here!

Ha Ha those buskers are lucky, they actually get two of them to lean against. They have been there a few years now and have become quite an icon in Rundle Mall, Adelaide. Like in, if you want to arrange to meet someone in town, you say "I'll meet you at the malls balls"

Just recently they had a polish, so they look quite shiny.

oh yes OB ours is a destination Market. We have a rule. You bake it you make it you grow it.Google Saltspring market.

I did and that is a very interesting market dianne.
Here's a link that showed me what you meant by bake it...make it....grow it.

The Saturday Market on Salt Spring is this west-coast island's most popular seasonal event. It takes place each Saturday (yes, rain or shine) from about Easter to Thanksgiving in Centennial Park -- right in the middle of Ganges village, and right at the water's edge.

There are artisans and food producers of all kinds. These include jewelers, sculptors, potters, painters, farmers, musicians, authors, chefs, etc. The main thing that makes this market stand out from the others is that all vendors have to " make it, bake it, or grow it " themselves. So you really do see unique items made on the island, and not the same 'crafts' that are found in every other so-called artisan's market in North America.

Expect to sample locally made cheeses, breads, and all manner of eclectic fare. You can buy food to take home for preparation later on, or for a picnic, or you can just stroll over to the park's edge and sit in the grass for a snack while watching all the interesting people go by. There might be music in the park, or a dance demonstration or some other surprise event.

Tip: Get there early, while vendors and farmers are setting up to find the best selections. Depending on the season, fresh produce, breads, baked goods etc can run out before the end of the day. Also, parking is at a premium, so it's best to get there early and plan for several hours of wandering, meandering fun times.

I'm with you. I love markets wherever I go. I didn't realise you are on an Island. Great!

Found on Imgur: If great scientists had logos

I watched a documentary on Richard Feynman! It was delicious and he has been my favorite scientist ever since.
That is a very clever poster!

I like the way each scientist's name is illustrated with something he found out.

Feynman must have been a great professor.
Do you know Prof. Brian Cox? Even my daughter likes him, and she hates physics and chemistry. (When she was learning for an exam, she built up the theory that light is human. :-) It helped her pass the test.)
