TUTORIAL - Failsafe method to restore the current version of IOS

UPDATE:
Just to round off my issues, I have sent the Ipad to Apple who could not fix the issues and even though my Ipad was out of warranty (by 2 months) they have kindly issued me with a new Ipad. Therefore it appears that my issue was probably hardware related(?) and my only dilemma is do i stick with the Ipad? If the Nexus 10 had 3G i would be seriously tempted to move.

You can be certain that it was a hardware fault. Glad to hear you got a replacement. Apple tend to be very good like that.

As to your dilemma, you wouldn't get anything but biassed advice from me, so really the decision is yours... Only you can decide which is the better device for your needs ;)

I recently bought a IPad1 from my brother. When I got it everything worked just fine, apps and all. I messed around with my old android razr phone before and had gotten some pretty cool stuff before, so why not with the IPad? Well long story short, I jailbroke it and found that it wasent as great as I hoped (I just suck at apple stuff I guess). I wanted to restore the IPad and ran into a (3194) error restoring it with 5.1, then realized I needed 5.1.1. firmware instead. Then I tried the same process over and got a (1600) error. Needless to say Im stuck and I need help. I have been afraid of MACs my whole life with computing but took a chance with the IPad Apple. Please prove me wrong I should not give up my future love for yet another device.
P.S.- sorry about the long story ;-)

any ideas on how to get my IPad running again. I think Its stuck in recovery mode................just figured it out. After digging around some more I just went ahead and got rid of the gs.apple.com stuff in the host..worked great.

Help!

I finally decided to remove the jailbreak on my iPad 3 (WiFi) and i got error 3194. I downloaded TinyUmbrella but the Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit is grayed out. How do I fix this?

Did you try the tutorial in post #1 of this thread? If you follow the steps exactly, you will end up with a properly functioning iPad on the latest iOS.

I followed all the steps. I don't know how to do the alternative host thing, though

Greetings, if 6.1.3 is not out and Apple is still signing (or whatever it is called) 6.1.2 for the iPad I am going to follow the steps to the letter. I don't believe I will have any problem. Once I am done you will be able to ask me questions about it and I will have first hand knowledge and recent memory of the process. I just have to get out the instructions and put the iOS onto my computer.
Perhaps I should print the instructions and take notes and observations.
Alex, wish me luck.

i have an ipad 2, while i tried to upgrade to the latest version 6.1.2 i got stuck with the apple logo and having error 1604.
i tried everything on this 1st post , plus i tried

* restore the ipad on 2 different computer, using all usb ports
* uninstall and reinstall Itunes to the newest version
* enter into DFU mode and download manually from GETIOS the 6.1.2 version and try to restore it with SHIFT + RESTORE
* change cables
* remove\add the apple lines from hosts file

is there anything i can do ?

Yes there is, follow the tutorial in the first post in this thread. If you follow every step exactly, with no deviations, you will end up with a properly functioning iPad on iOS 6.1.2.

Greetings Alex. I restored both my iPad and iPhone using this method. I had no problems.
What about the "alternative host"? Do you mean the host file?
