What's new

What I see in my backyard...

I'm jealous. In AZ, my backyard has a pool, fake grass, rocks and dirt, and a patio. There's also a bit of plastic, because my house just got redone because of weeds sinking water into the base.

I was on the Baha Peninsula when I saw them.It was a cool(temp.) year so they must have been visiting as well.

Birds are funny...maybe they will make a detour and start visiting you there.

Your pool sounds like a "must" considering the hot temps that Arizona gets in the summers! Love your state-it's just beautiful!

Since coming home, my flower beds how grown about 4 inches!

We also must have had some high winds here to tear down part of our cherrywood tree!

Perhaps the UK migratory ducks will visit. It's reported that fewer are migrating here in recent years, thanks to climate change. Some species don't need to come here during the summer.

It looks like the branch broke where it joined the trunk. Some types of trees are prone to rot at that location, due to narrow angle crotches. Is there any rot evident on your tree?

I love our ducks here! We have all sorts here. My favorite are the mallards-they are so nice looking with all their colors!

Let's hope they do come and visit the UK again, Richard!

That's a good question, Sci. I'm not sure if it was just the bad storms that went through here while we were gone. It is an old tree, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is degeneration to it! The cutters are coming out sometime this weekend, so we will know more! :)

The past week--my "backyard" was in the State of Nevada.

I came across this bird that I am not familiar with, maybe others know. It looks to me like a crow--but brown!

I believe that this is a Bendire's Thrasher. It seems consistent with the markings and also the local region they belong to, one being in Nevada. In don't think it's a brown thrasher because of the absence of the white markings.

Here's another pic of him:

Also, from the Birds Audobon App...here is the description and local range they migrate to...

Buffleheads and coots
The first two are from my backyard and the others are from my walk this afternoon. It was a wonderful surprise seeing the woodpecker taking a dirt bath.

Here's a photo of two sparrows on an old wheelbarrow in my yard. The one on the left is a Chipping Sparrow and the one on the right is a White Crowned Sparrow.

Love these pics of all the different birds and ducks, Czevski! We also had these Pileated Woodpeckers that loved coming to an old Birch tree we had in the back. He found lots of goodies inside that tree! I have tried recently to take some pics of ours, but they are quick like all birds!

Here is what I found from my app...love this thing. I am learning lots about these birds! ...

I love the pics, Sci with the wooden half barrel planter and wheel barrow in the background for the Sparrow to sit on. Often times I get these birds confused with chickadees. I think that's what they are!

Scimonkey....your app missed the whole of van. Is...Definatly piliated peckers here

What did you mean again, Dianne? I didn't catch that.
