What's new

What I see in my backyard...

I was walking my front yard to see some of my early flowers merging. It seems like the Primroses have finally come up. Our grass was just cut, so there are grass clippings surrounding it! I believe that Spring is here and hopefully now rolling right into Summer soon! :)

Spring is my favorite time. Summer can wait, although we seem to have switched from 10 degrees below average to 10degrees above average with no average (spring temperatures) in between.

My roof high rhododendron is starting to show off.

In a matter of hours the destruction was significant! I just saw some pictures of the fire and where it has spread--it's just dreadful to see all that damage in the path of this roaring fireball! It doesn't seem like they can control it they way the fire is spreading so rapidly. :(

Oh dear…

That is just lovely, Czevski! Our Peony bush is just starting to come up. The below than normal temps we have had really slowed a lot things this year. My columbines are showing buds, but are not open yet!

Today...we had 75 degree temps--finally! :)

Thank you Richard and Dianne, an update

The fire is a little larger at 3800 acres, but they are calling it 25% contained.

From California's site:

The US Forest Service, Kern County and Ventura County are in Unified Command. There are 1,445 personnel on scene, including 79 crews, 65 engines, 9 dozers, 20 water tenders and 82 overhead. Seven air tankers and six helicopters are providing air support.
Angeles NF, LA County Fire, Kern County Fire, Ventura County Fire, Bureau of Land Management and Cal Fire are all providing fire suppression resources. Other cooperators include, Ventura, Los Angeles and Kern County Sheriff Departments, California Highway Patrol and California State Parks.

It is amazing to think of all of these people working together on something like this. Many are risking their lives to help.

Talk of the devil. I was just wondering how you were making out, on the Weather thread. Good to see you are still intact.

Hope you don't have to evacuate yourself! Stay safe!

Beautiful! What kind of bird is that?

Two Baltimore orioles showed up to visit tonight. The females are much less flashy and I didn't see any of them.

He's very cool looking! He almost looks like a hybrid of a Robin with that orange chest of his!

We had 5 hummingbird sightings tonight while sitting out on our patio. They are so fun to watch! :)
QUOTE=zstairlessone;933080]We are in the path, but far enough away, I think. The winds throw a wild card into the equation. There are 7 or 8 airplanes i can see taking on water here at the small airfield about a mile west of me and dropping it onto the fire to try and control it, they are slowing the growth somewhat.
Just read about the fire near you. I hope it's under control by now, and that you are okay.

Scary stuff. My heart goes out to you and others affected by it.
