What I see in my backyard...

Don't some bird types pair bond? Sometimes for life?

Yes, some certainly do.

But I don't know about blackbirds. They are common here in the UK but it would be tricky to find out. Any research would probably involve specialised ringing & regular trapping / checking.

Or perhaps not?? New technology might well make this a simpler task in the future. It would be great to be able to identify individuals & keep track what they were doing.

However, if these two were siblings (as we suspect) then presumably they will each find their own mates when they are ready to separate.

Ooooh, aren't these just fantabulously glorious?? I am drooling with awe over here....

Favourite??

Very difficult but probably has to be the black-robed creature with those bright splashy post-modernist red paint-brush markings. Ready for a night at the opera? Wow. And only got to "commended". (No idea what post-modernist means either, but it's a word that always seems to get an airing in arty-talk:-))

But then, there are so many more....
Thank you for the link!

Great photos of your very plump blackbirds, Stranding! It is amazing how you were able to get the shots knowing how difficult and quick they move! Love the one peering out! :)

Ethereal!

When I looked that word up (to check that the meaning was what I intended:-)) it came up with:

1. Consisting of ether (No!)
2. Heavenly (yes!)
3. Airy (yes!)
3. Spirit-like (yes!)

So 2, 3 & 4:-)

It could be 1 as well, depends on what is in the bird feeder!

Lol.

But so gruesome...

The ground littered with ethered hummingbirds?

Not such an Angelic Archangel, are you?

But it would make them easier to photograph.....

You guys all crack me up and thank you for liking my picture. I think these little guys have put a different view on life for me...with its tiny little wings and perseverance.

Ethereal--love the definition! It's a perfect match for these little wonders of love here..all except the ether, though, maybe my cooking of hummingbird food might give them that by product!! Let's see 2 cups of Water to a half cup of sugar, boil it down and cool off....hopefully that's the right combo!!

OMG, the idea of cooking for visiting birds is so funny to me. I don't even cook for myself. If I were to try to feed birds, they'd have to settle for takeout, lol.

It has become quite the routine chore, I have to say Kay!! We actually bought pre-made juice and they wanted nothing of it. I knew, because they kept going to the feeder with the home made juice!! Such finicky eaters!!
