It looks like a card or ticket reader.

The yellow colour indicates that it reads tickets purchased to travel on public transport, such as a bus or at the entrance to a train station.

The ticket has a sensitive strip which holds the necessary information such as destination, fare paid and the date of travel. If all of the information reads positively when the ticket is inserted in the slot, the barrier opens to let the passenger onto the system.

Of course it's in its jacket. After all, it's going out for dinner.

There is small scale commercial potato farming near Regina, at Craven, Saskatchewan.
