No, the first photo shows the lever that switches between film advance"A" and rewind"R".

Here's a photo if part of the top of the camera.

Linda correctly identified my challenge subject as a camera, but I 'm still looking for the identity of the maker.

Correct, Linda! It's a Leica IIIc, produced during WWII at the Leitz factory in Wetzlar, Germany.
